Lenovo Intros IdeaPad U450p
Lenovo today introduced its latest consumer notebook, the IdeaPad U450p. The U450p is based on Intel's Consumer Ultra Low Voltage (CULV) platform, commonly referred as an 'ultra thin' notebook. The U450p features an anti-glare 14-inch display (1366x768), integrated Intel GMA X4500 graphics, Windows Vista, and a six-cell battery. The base model starts at $799 with a Pentium SU2700 (1.3GHz) processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 250GB hard drive, while the $899 version bumps the specifications to a faster Core 2 Solo SU3500 (1.4GHz) processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive.Like other ultra thin notebooks, the U450p has an external optical drive.

The price is really garbage for those specs compared to the acer timeline. I suppose the display might be better for some people.
-
Well...if you consider Acer's reputation versus Lenovo's and the general build qualities that tend to accompany the products, perhaps some will consider this an okay deal; though I suppose I can't say anything about the Timeline series

The base model's price difference is $799 vs $549 (Lenovo has 1G less ram and less HD space)
that is $250, you can get top of the line Timeline with $799 (sort of) -
Well, it's good to see these made official. I believe the optical drive is integrated though.
What's also odd is the technical specs report the screen as glossy while the configurator (if you want to call it that) as antiglare.

So far, Acer is the only one (to my knowledge) offering a CULV-notebook with a dual-core processor- the Timeline 3810T with 1.4GHz Intel C2D SU9400. For the same price as the Lenoov U450p and several other competitors, the 3810T has "real" notebook performance....
It will be interesting to see how single-core CULV processors (like the SU2700 and SU3500) perform running Windows 7 instead of Vista.... -

Just don't let Lenovo hear that or they'll try to develop a co-branding scheme with Burberry and double the price!!! -
Finally this laptop came up...I hoped for something better with this U450p....rather disappointing the specs...

Supposedly, on the original thread, some poster talked to a Lenovo Sales Rep and the later said that an upcoming higher-end version was coming out...I honestly dont know whether this is true or not. The specs sheet says nothing about this..(unlike the U330's which had the higher models listed long before they came out)
So the "p" stands for nothing? Then why there? Why not just U450? -
Rumor is the U450 will be picking up two dual-core CULV options consisting of the SU4100 (1.3GHz, 2MB of L2 cache) and the SU7300 (1.3GHz, 3MB of L2 cache).

The only one of these CULV notebooks that appeals to me (so far) is the Acer Timeline AS3810T. It's a 13.3" model and configurations with the 1.4GHz Intel C2D SU9400 start at $799! -
Their website says that the U450p has discrete graphics in selected models. Its not showing up in the models released yet but if they throw in some switchable graphics and those dual-cure CULVs it might turn out to be one amazing notebook.

^^ you are 100% right. 7 is the way to go if you decide on one of these things. ITs the same thing with the netbooks with Ion. To me if i jump on that wagon 7 is a MUST.
I sadly missed out on 7 so i never got to see what it was really about first hand. -
wow, $800 for a 14" laptop with such a poor gpu.. good luck to all these future ignorants....oops, i mean buyers..
-
Well its not being marketed for its graphics power, its being marketed because its CHEAP THIN AND LIGHT. Also will get above average battery life for a 14 incher.
Did I mention it was cheap?
and thin?
and light?
Because thats what ALL users want, amirite? -
CHEAP THIN AND LITE? bof not even close...
CHEAP LONG BATTERY LIFE AND POWERFUL AND THIN AND LITE that is what they want. But lets be realistic, most people will opt for the powerful and heavy with huge battery instead of a weak and thin with average bat life with basically no power... -

^^^ lol Serg thats what i want. ATI 4860, DDR3 Ram, and 5 pounds*Dazes off*
Thin and light is the new big and powerful. -
-
LG X100 uses U7700 which is 1.33Ghz and 2Mb cache.
-
Ah so the SU7300 is better then based on the fact i has more cache at about the same clocks. How does this compare to the SU9300? Better or worse?
