The trend these days is for smaller and lighter laptops. Many of the analysts that follow PC sales are saying that they expect tablets to outsell laptops in 2012. Intel has jumped into the fray with the Ultrabook and its focus on thinner, lighter laptops with significantly more performance than a tablet like the iPad.
Lenovo, like most PC manufacturers, makes an Ultrabook, but the IdeaPad Y580 represents the latest update to the "traditional" 15-inch notebook PC. And that's good, because while Ultrabooks are pretty and light, some of us need the extra utility and power -- and lower price tag -- that comes from a standard 15-inch laptop.

This review wasn't what I expected from Notebookreview.com There was no indication about the build quality or ruggedness. I'm used to reading about chassis flex, screen ripples and hinge quality. Instead there was cosmetic garbage and some filler about a latchless design.
Also, there was just a mention about the keyboard having a "good feel and a positive keypress." That's pretty minimal for a nr.com review.
This reads more like a fanboy review. It doesn't tell me what I want to know about the laptop, and whether I can expect it to last longer than the regular consumer junk laptops that are out there (any Acer, Toshiba Satellite, HP Pavillion, Dell Inspiron).

I also would like more subjective impressions, not just a summary of its equipment.
As for the keyboard, though...what really needs to be said? Just as Apple is incapable of creating a subpar trackpad, Lenovo is incapable of creating a subpar keyboard. Regardless of what genre you're looking at--multimedia consumer laptops, ultrabooks, etc--it's a safe bet that the Lenovo has the best keyboard. -

I wouldn't have described the touchpad as "slightly left of center". It's well to the left of center because pad is lined up with the space bar but the keyboard includes a numeric keypad.
