I've always found Lenovo's budget notebooks tend to be better built than the likes of HP and Dell. However, with the G580 it seems like a bit of a step back in the build quality department. They used to build them of really thick plastic, almost rubber maid like ( see this G550 review), and while that's not good for aesthetics or weight it sure made for a sturdy but heavy machine. Too bad they've thinned out the case nowadays. At least the specs offered are decent and the keyboard is good.

I got a G770, i5, 6GB DDR, 750GB HDD for $499 last year (so Win 7 Pro and not Win 8), I must say it has a better performance than 570 i5 & 4GB. The battery lasts about 2.5 hours (after a years use) but G770 also has 1.5 inch bigger screen. With tons of apps (am a developer myself) loaded G770 boots Win 7 in 45 sec or less, goes to sleep in 5 secs and wakes up from sleep in 6-7 seconds.
So add some memory and you should beat the perf of any similar config in the market. The LED backlit is the best in Lenovo!

This laptop is going for $250 today. The reviewer indicated it was a good value when priced at $550, I'm guessing it's a steal at $250.

Has anyone taken a good look at the hard drive partitions that come with this thing? C is 418 gig and D is 25 gig. But, one touch recovery re-initializes the C partition making it unusable for storing personal data. So, over 300 gig are totally unusable.

This seems to be a major screw up by Lenovo is configuring this product.

I like to buy Lenovo G580 with i3 and NVIDIA GeForce 710M. But I have an issue: whether it will support dual monitors (VGA (D-sub) - first and HDMI second)? Please your opinion, guys.
    Thanks.
