    Lenovo Celebrates 15th Anniversary of the ThinkPad with ThinkPad Reserve Edition

    Company CEO's and cowboys alike should love the new leather bound ThinkPad Reserve edition. With promised 24-7 dedicated tech support from anywhere in the world and a limited release of 5,000 units it'll be more in the price range of the CEO types though.

    The ThinkPad Reserve Edition will actually be a ThinkPad X61s notebook with a saddle-grade premium French leather exterior. The tech specs on the ThinkPad Reserve will be as follows:

    • CPU: Intel Centrino Pro Processor Technology, Intel Core 2 Duo L7500
    • Software: Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate, Microsoft Office Small Business 2007
    • Wireless Connectivity: Optimized wireless WAN performance (via Vodafone, AT&amp;T, Verizon or Telus) for broadband connectivity outside the office. Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN, Bluetooth
    • LCD: 12.1&quot; UltraLight display
    • Memory: 2 GB memory
    • Hard Disk Drive: 160GB 5400 RPM Serial ATA, Full Disk Encryption
    • Peripherals: External USB multi-burner, External 80 GB USB hard drive
    • Battery Life: About 7 hours

    Lenovo claims to have engineered a unique design that will make sure the notebook stays cool despite being wrapped in a warm coat of leather. Each Reserve Edition ThinkPad will be individually numbered so it's unique. Let's hope that means you're not treated like a number when it comes to the support because the cost of this notebook will be upwards of $5,000. Lenovo will provide on site support within 4-hours and promise to have the support phone picked up by a live person within 4-rings whenever you call a dedicated free number.

     

    ThinkPad 15th Anniversary

    The Reserve Edition may be a gimmick or not depending on your opinion, but Lenovo is promoting this in conjunction with the 15th anniversary celebration of the ThinkPad and indicating it's a way to show how they're always looking to innovate in terms of design and service.

    Thinkpad 700c circa 1992

    The ThinkPad 700c was the first &quot;official&quot; ThinkPad, released in 1992 it had 8MB of memory, 120MB hard drive and top speeds of 50MHz from the 486 Intel platform processor. Windows 3.1 would have run okay on the machine, Windows 95 proved to be too large in size for the standard hard drive.
