These days there are tons of Laptops to choose form and new Manufacturers to look at.

I currently own a Compaq 1700 and I liked it for the time I had it but it is now time I upgrade to a newer model.

As I start to go to my local shops I am noticing how many more there are to choose from. I was shocked because when I bought the Compaq there was maybe 10 at most. Now I see almsot 30.

My question here is. Besides this forum. Is there a place to help me decide which laptop will best suit my needs and for the best value.

Because right now I am confused on what to look for.

    Any help would be apreciative.

Also I live near Vancouver, BC if that helps.

    TIA

    EZ

they have a pretty nice section on laptops
lets you choose what you want it for and gives you new reviews on everything

I'm a fan of review.cnet.com since there's a fair number of reviews and user opinions, plus more popular models have videos as well so you can get a better idea of what things look like.

Well there is defiently alot to look at these days. :decision:

Basically what is the best bang for ones buck is what I am looking for. The Centrino :centrino: was not out when I bought my Compaq and now it is and the laptops are lighter and have longer battery life. Something I always wanted because i have travelled alot and boy carrying the laptop does weigh on your shoulder. I think HD space is not much of a concern 40 or more will be fine. Built in wireless now that I have tried is is a must, too bad there is no Serial port anymore, Because most devices themselves still eed to make the move to USB. A 15 inch screen is still fine, Fire port is nice to have, minimum 512 Ram, and about video cards. I think a decent one is cool because I wouldn't mind playing a game or two. Anything else one can offer for todays laptop must haves??

And according to these options which units would any of you recomend on a none Biased opinion. lol

THanx for your input thus far.

I am not really brand specific as long as it has some quality built in it. I would like to keep for minimum 3 years of regular use.

As for pricing I would like to be in the range of $1500 Max and under if possible.

I went into a local store and they had a LG Centurion 1.6Ghz 60GB HD, 512 ram, and so on for $1499.

One question I have is that are alot of brands out there already. Which brands should one stay away form because of constant recalls or problems or fixes. I would like one that will last. My very first laptop the Hinge broke, Then I traded that in for a sony Vio and the mouse pad had issues, then my current laptop is the Compaq 1700 and I found it to be decent but the hinge I can see is starting to wear. So this is my dilemma.

If I had a choice to either pay for a laptop with less Speed and Space for better quality over one that has more for the same price and found out that the cheaper one is built better I would sway to the better constructed unit becuase of longevity.

I hope explanation helps. But all in all like anyone else in this world would like to have the better speed along with quailty built if the price it right. lol I jsut don;t want to dream and pay too much money.

Most any name brand will last a while. I know people with Thinkpad, HP/Compaq, Dell, and Toshiba laptops that are 5+ years old. I'm currently typing this up on a Dell desktop that I've had since around 2000 (waiting for the setup in my sig to arrive).

One thing I tend to do is just hop onto reviews.cnet.com, peruse around. Go to the company's page, pick one that has specs you like all right and find reviews for it. Two to think about are Dell's 9300 and the HP zd8000.
