The Iomega iConnect Wireless Data Station is a sort of DIY-type NAS unit that allows you to share any USB-connected storage across your network. If you are the type of person with a few computers and a handful of USB external drives, the iConnect allows you to share storage to all of your computers over gigabit Ethernet or Wi-Fi. In this review we take an in-depth look at Iomega iConnect to see how well it performs in a home environment.

Great review Kevin - I was excited about this device (which I hadn't even heard of until I saw this review) until I checked it out on Amazon. The reviews on Amazon are not good at all. Hopefully this will improve over time...

Yea when I was first researching it, reviews were either 5 stars or one star. Lots of DOA models from the initial batch or something. When my review started we were using the latest available firmware from the Iomega website, so that may have something to do with it.

I hope it does improve as well as the reliability. That's a pretty sweet seeming device. If it pops up in a decent sale (Shellshocker...) I might grab one.

If you'd like to save time, money, and yourself from insane frustration, do not buy IOMEGA:
1...Their support is unprepared and unqualified, be it under warranty or not. You call under warranty for hours, and they have no clue how to resolve it, then ask you to pay for data recovery.
2...Their product is like a lottery; you could be one in a billion having no issues with your product.
3...The information on troubleshooting is inexistent and misleading at best (i.e., "you need a firmware, click here to download" = page doesn't exist).
4...Pay $50 for out of warranty because time passed under warranty without a solution, and you'll get the same: either nothing or have your storage device shipped with your information to someone that you evidently cannot trust.
5...GOOD LUCK to all of you taking the risk; you will need it.

    Warning:

This is the worst piece of hardware crap, that i've bought in twenty years.

I thought that i'm smarter than the other guys and that i'm able to make it work until i figured out, that the few positive reviews on Amazon are faked and that the euphoric reviews of this product must be bought.

    To make it short:

This plastic junk is not able to do what it is supposed to do.

The support is horrible. The online documentation is a joke. When you check their forum you wll figure out that there are masses of people with problems but no one ever got an working answer except "call the technical hotline".

I have no idea how it was with the older firmware, but i can tell you that i have a totally up to date PC, Router and Iomega IConnect and: It does not work at all.

Hardrives are not detected and if they get detected they loose connection within minutes. If you attach more than one harddrive to this nightmare than you won't even be able to connect anything.

I'm talking here about the basic function in the easiest setup: One HD and the Iconnect wired to your router.

Forget about copying data, time machine, remote access, wireless use or whatever.

There are no words to tell you how bad this product is.

If you want to ruin your spare time, your weekend and your nervs. If you want to get angry and hatefull and raise grey hair in no time: Buy this.

This is my second try with Iomega and i swear that it was the last!

    Sorry for my english!
