wooo, i got scared for a second because i read price cuts through September 2, not after September 2. I've got no problem waiting tll late July and this just makes things much better! Only need to wait for the 8700GT to release and I can easily say goodbye to $2000+! Hooray!

hmmm, Best Buy in my experiences isn't the fastest at getting out things not targeted for the mainstream audiences. Core 2 extremes are not for the average joe so its hard to say how Best Buy will respond to this. If you are really crunched for time, I would recommend to buy first week of july, try it out while waiting, and see if the new stuff comes out. If it does, you can return the notebook and get the newer versions. If not, you'll have a notebook that will be with you for the next 3-4 years. I'm assuming that it will be the Asus G1 from your other thread.

It will be nice in uber high-end gaming laptops like the Clevo M570RU and Dell XPS M17x0.

There is always a market for anything...there'd be a market for a PCMCIA coffee-maker if someone would invent one :D

anyone know if a current santa rosa laptop could put the x7800 or x7900 in there?

do u think the laptops will need extra cooling?

i wouldnt mind upgrading to one of the 2, but not if it doesnt work

Yes, the processor should be compatible with the Intel 965 chipset, and the Santa Rosa platform. The processors shouldn't need any extra cooling, provided the TDP of these processors is the same as the other Santa Rosa processors. Upgrading to these new processors will be very expensive, and its certainly not worth the cost for the average user.

    thank you, one more question

u think they would allow you to overclock it because I know intel released the T7600G which allowed for overclocking but was wondering for their extreme processors

I'm not too sure on that one. Intel seems to be pushing overclockability with their desktop and just that one mobile processors. It may be that these new processor have an unlocked multiplier, but I'm not entirely sure.
