    Intel Unveils Notebook Plans for 2nd Half

    Intel today unveiled its plans for the mobile sector in the second half of this year, covering traditional notebooks, Consumer Ultra Low Voltage (CULV) platform notebooks, and netbooks. Intel is planning to launch its next-generation notebook platform, dubbed Capella, in the third quarter; initial notebook models based on the platform will target the high-end market and be priced at $1,200 and above. As a result of introducing the new platform, prices of notebooks based on the current Montevina platform will naturally decrease.

    The company plans to step up its CULV notebooks, featuring 12/13-inch screens and price tags between $699 - $1,100.

    In the netbook world, while the Atom N280 processor and GN40 chipset combination are newer than the N270 + 945GSE, Intel is considering phasing out the former due to low demand. The current netbook technology will be replaced in September by Intel's next-generation netbook platform.
