Sounds nice. Which are the sources for the release dates, and is there any chance they'll be released earlier in Japan? I'm going there in a week and would really want a S6000 - don't know if I can wait until March though...

Yes, Japan should see the Fujitsu laptops earlier than the U.S. Our source for the Fujitsu releases is from a Fujitsu reseller with specific information.

I want to see what Dell has to offer in new Inspiron 9300.
Currently I am using Inspiron 9200 and I am very happy. Does anyone know what is the configuration of Inspiron 9300?

Does anybody have a feel for what that will do to the prices for the current crop of Dothan chipped laptops, and more specifically for the Fujitsu S6321 and S7010 models? I realize they will (should) drop in price. I'm just wondering if anyone has a good feel for percentage drop in price?

    Thank-you!

Awesome, I can't wait to see them! Maybe hp might be smart and make a 17" and 12" version of the dv1000, which happens to be their only stylish laptop.

in regards to all the questions on price drops, Intel will announce price drops on existing chips in the next week or two and it'll take another week or two after that for manufacturers to pass on those price drops, so if you can wait a month you'll benefit.

I know the IBM T43 will have a docking station / port replicator upon release.. Does anyone know of any others? This is my #1 requirement after the video card when purchasing a new system..

    Cheers!

All Sony Sonoma models (A, S, and the new FS) will have port replicators.

Does anyone know what kind of performance boost we are likely to see? Specifically, my school offers deals on IBM PCs, so I'm interested what kind of real-world improvements we are likely to see between the current top-of-the-line T42 and the T43. Is it worth waiting for? Also, anyone have any clue how long I should expect to wait before getting my paws on a T43? I know they're being announced next week, but that might not mean they'll be available next week.
    Thanks!

I need to buy a notebook very soon, and my first criterion is low weight / small size. But I also want decent 3D performance, so I was hoping to get one with PCI-Express. Do you guys think any of these new Sonoma-powered notebooks will have screens around 12-13 inches or smaller, or will they tend to be high-end desktop replacements?

If not, I might just pull the trigger on the Dell 700m.

    Hi all,
I am planning to buy 600m but decided to wait for Dell Inspiron 6000 release. I was worried whether 600m will be discontinued and prices of Dell Inspiron 6000 could be very high. Do you think I should buy right now?

What are the chances that 600m will be discontiuned as soon as Dell Inspiron 6000 is launched? or dell will continue 600m for some time after Dell Inspiron 6000 is launched next week.

    Thanks in advance,
    ash

Intel is releasing ultra-low voltage chips as part of this release, so there will certainly be 12" - 13" screen notebooks carrying the latest chip sooner or later.

The T43 should be available within the next two weeks for order and the wait should not bee too long for it shipping.

The Inspiron 6000 is a 15.4" screen notebook and is in no way a replacement for the 600m, it's a totally different class of notebook.

It's fortuitous timing about the next-gen Intel mobile platform release. I'm just now planning to buy a new ThinkPad replacement for an existing T40 (which had cost me over $3K). As before, it's always hard to decide between the T and X series.

I'm wondering though why the X41 is listed as not released until April, whereas the T43 is supposed to come out soon? I guess the rollout schedule will make the decision for me as I cannot wait until April [ :D] But I'm still curious to find more specs on both models.

BTW I'm sure glad I found this informative site and forum, it's just what I'm looking for.

P.S. Saw an eWeek article at: http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1752342,00.asp I admit I was initially a bit worried that there won't even be new ThinkPad models (until Lenovo gets the new outfit's R&D pipeline rolling, and I was worried that would mean they might skip a generation in the meanwhile), hehe.

    Thanks for posting the links.

Argh, NotebookReview's latest news now say March for T43 (instead of January) [ :(]

An article from e week shows that battery performance may be sacrificed for the increased performance in sonoma laptops. My guess is that this sacrifice will just be at the higher end (Pentium M 770) and from PCI-E video cards that will hopefully release with some of the notebooks (dell seems to be lagging on that one...)http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1752671,00.asp

I hope Sonoma will make it possible to mirror my disks using RAID.

Sonoma supports it, but will the notebooks? I saw that the Siemens-Fujitsu used SATA-disks, but most other (Acer for example) used ATA-disk. Hopefully, I can put an additional disk into the CD/DVD-slot and enable SATA-RAID.

(Why do I need mirroring? My harddisk typically lasts 2 years, and installing Windows + all program + configuring takes at least a week.)

I've been watching all this week for the Dell 9300, but so far it hasn't shown up. Is the January date for this reliable? Does anyone know the actual date they will start taking orders?
