So, that means instead of CES, fall release after IDF?

    Great news. :D
Now we need a ATI gpu that includes support for Intel IGPs so it can do switchable graphics.

Not going to happen (AMD is doing its own version of CPU+GPU with Llano). But we might get Sandy Bridge + Optimus with Nvidia's GF104 and GF108 chips.

AMD/ATI shouldn't have any more of a problem adapting their hyrbid graphics tech to Intel's IGP than Nvidia did with Optimus. I expect ATI's version to work fine with either company's CPU....though I expect even more from discrete ATI paired with AMD Fusion.

They did. Originally they were due out in fall 09 for notebooks on 45nm, then we would have the 32nm we have now but the 45nm's got cancelled due to the economy and we skipped straight to Arrandale. Also Sandy Bridge will continue with Core i branding.

Considering all the new mobile CPUs will have integrated, it will be switchable to Intel graphics.

I think its the notebook manufacturer and also the company that made the GPU (AMD & Nvidia) because i dont think Intel really cares. :p

Well Intel has to care since you need drivers from both companies to have a good switchable graphics solution.

its the motherboard hardware, the drivers and software and how the graphics card and igp are wired to the screen that determine if switchable graphics is active or not.

Of next year, maybe. The article is slightly misleading, Sandy Bridge itself is not coming out earlier, but the shift of their manufacturing process over to it is, so they can avoid some of the parts shortages and shipment issues they have had with some of the core-i chips. A bit more information here ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...b-huron-river-platform-way-4.html#post6478109).

Yes, the desktop CPUs. We'll see how they compare when reviews get their samples.
