It's here, Intels long awaited new generation Intel Pentium M processor code named "Dothan" will be unveiled today in San Francisco. The IBM ThinkPad T42 is here and will be among the first notebooks to feature the Dothan.
The Pentium M Dothan improves upon the older Pentium M Banias through shrinking the fabrication process to 90nm, doubling the cache and boosting the clock speed of the chip. In addition to all this, the power consumption is reduced by 10% leading to longer battery life.
Today Intel has released three Dothan chips as follows:
Pentium M Processor 755: 2GHz - 600MHz, 2MB Cahce, 400MHz Frontside Bus
Pentium M Processor 745: 1.8GHz - 600MHz, 2MB Cache, 400MHz Frontside Bus
Pentium M Processor 735: 1.7GHz - 600MHz, 2MB Cache, 400MHz
The 90nm Pentium M works with DDR 333/266 memory in conjuntion with the 855PM and 855GME chipsets. Manufacturers can build Centrino branded notebook systems by combining these components with Intel's latest PRO/Wireless 2200BG 802.11b/g wireless receiver module.

The new IBM ThinkPad T42 will feature the new Intel Dothan
The new IBM ThinkPad T42 features the 1.7GHz Pentium M 735 or the 1.8GHz Pentium M 755 Dothan chips. The T42 can also be configured with an older Pentium M chip running at 1.5GHz. The T42 is the first ThinkPad to offer a 15 in. display configuration in addition to the 14" display. It will also be the first ThinkPad to offer a 9.5mm multi format DVD burner. This DVD burner is named the ThinkPad Multi-Burner UltraBay Slim Drive. Graphics processor options will be handled by the ATI Radeon M10 or M7, the M10 offers up to 64MB of video RAM and the M7 offers up to 32MB of video RAM. The hard disk size will max out at 80GB with a 5,400 RPM speed.
The ThinkPad T42 will certainly offer everything the current T41 series offers, such as the disk drive Active Protective System to protect system data from notebook drops. The T42 will be available and shipping in 2 - 3 weeks.
