The Core Duo and Core 2 Duos are going to be sold at the same prices, depending on what tier the particular processor you're looking at is in. I don't think there will be a "Core Duo" discount, as resellers will probably just sell out of them and then simply restock Core 2 Duo only.

There are no scheduled price drops in the near future, especially for early September, that have been announced.

Driving down the road today, I noticed a large truck with TVs covering the sides. I slowed down and the truck was covered in Core 2 Duo ads. It seemed to be essentially a moving billboard so I guess they're trying to spread the word. I went into a store and was gonna swing by to ask a few questions when I came out but it was gone by then... I wonder if I missed out on any coupons/news. Wish I had more time to whip out my phone and snap a picture.

Anyone have any idea what Toshiba has to say about their Merom offering?

Ok can someone help me? I was planning on getting a Sony sz but then I read about this new intel core 2 duo and now I don't know what to do. I need the laptop by late sept 23 max and I was wondering if any of you knew when sony would upgrade its sz series. Also do you think it would be wise to buy the processor so early in its life? I mean i would still have kinks in it and stuff. (On a side note, I want this laptop to last a pretty long time without getting outdated and I don't want to buy an intel core duo only to find out a year or two from now that it isn't being used anymore)

PS: I know it says laptops with Merom will ship with the late aug to early sept but I was wondering specifically about the sony sz
    Thanks

at this point no one knows anything for sure, esp about specific models. when it comes to pcs, it will always get "outdated" in a year, depends on what you use it for, yonah will last a long time, look at how the pentium m is, its still being sold.

^Thanks I was wondering if anyone knew
I know the yonah will last but if the sz will start selling with the merom a week after for the same price I'll feel like a total fool.

Does anyone know when the Non-Disclosure Agreement ends? I know there is one because they referred to it on DL TV.

yeah I'm stuck in limbo as well. Looks like I wont be adding a PC Laptop to my collection of computers (2 desktops 1ibook) until september. I think I've settled on getting a HP Business Class laptop. The fact that I can spill on it and slap it about without screwing the machine up too bad is very encouraging. Plus it comes with 3 years of solid service! If not, theN I'll just be going with the DV2000T that has the new merom. I HATE WAITING!

I went to HP support about the keyboard problems, just to be sure that they were right, and at the end of the conversation, I popped the question about upgrading to Merom once my support ended, and this was the response:

I didn't copy the part about there being a BIOS upgrade (after making that statement), however, I should be getting a transcript soon enough.

From photos that Sledgehammer posted, and various comments, this must be their way of keeping you from "screwing it up".

    Edit:

Who needs a BIOS upgrade when there is nothing new on the board (and no other known problems)?
