Intel CPU Lineup Adjustments in May
Intel is planning to update its notebook CPU lineup this spring, introducing new models and discontinuing old ones. Among the Core 2 Duo CPUs used in the previous Centrino "Santa Rosa" platform, the T8100, T8300, T9300, T9500, and Extreme X9000 will reach their end-of-life in May. Several other CPUs, including the Core 2 Duo T7250 and T7100 and the Ultra Low Voltage U7500 and U7600 are reaching their end-of-life this month.
New CPUs on the horizon include the Core 2 Duo T9900, P9700, and P8800. Current models including the T9600 and P8700 will see price reductions of 68% and 15% respectively.

Exactly the news that I wanted to hear . Thank you.

Looks like the Socket P/965 chipset Penryns will be having their farewell tour.
And become that much rarer on eBay. Get yers today! -
T9600 looks awesome for the price , though what is 'Core 2 Quad T9900' on their page?
-
P9700 is amazing. 2.8Ghz @ 25w.
-
The T9900 is the replacement for the T9800 -- it's almost certainly the same processor, but with an extra half multiplier (so 3066MHz rather than 2933MHz)
-
Any news for extreme edition cpus?
-
Ya for core 2 quad !
Now they confuse me again with the naming scheme, T9900 is a quad core, but what about the Q9100? -
Price reduction of 68% on the T9600? That's good to hear!
-
The Core 2 Quad T9900 is a typo. T9900 is a dual core.

Yes, the "Core 2 Quad T9900" is indeed a typo on DigiTimes' part. The T9900 has, I believe, a 3.06GHz clockspeed.
-
yep the t9900 is a DUAL CORE. i have one already a es sample it is NOT a quad core. imo if you can get a t9800 at prices right now of 300 or lower get one the t9900 will make almost no significant difference at all especially at the prices they are selling for of almost 500$
-
the t9900 cant be a quad core. If it was a 3ghz quad core it would be faster then the qx9300 which would mean it would have to be an extream edition. Plus all quads start with a Q.
-
as i said i own one already and actual sl spec oem chip.. its not a quad.
-
Oh ok then.
I'm looking forward for some more price reduction of the Quad-core. -
Any idea how much the T9500 will reduce in price?
-
That's one of the ones that they're stopping production of.
If anything, the price will go UP with eBay. -
hummm my m17 might see a upgrade then ....

I know what you mean. Almost makes me wish I didn't jump on the T9800 so quickly, but my P8600 wasn't cutting it anymore, so I'm happy with my 2.93Ghz monster.
Now that rumored X9300 @ 3.33Ghz is what I'd like to hear more about. -

An X9300 @ 3.33 sounds very interesting... especially if it can OC to 3.8~
-
i may be getting my hands on one (3.33) a es sample b1 stepping though and possibly a p9700 (or as soon as the es gets to my supplier) as well soon ill keep everyone posted as to how well they perform if i get them. my source is pretty good so i dont have to many doubts he got me a sl spec t9900 almost 3 weeks ago lol
-
Too bad there probably won't be a P9800 w/ an even multiplier. 2.93GHz @ 25W anyone!? Hah. That will be the day!
-

Yeah the X9300 looks exciting as well.
The T9800 is still a fine CPU though -
-
i can say the t9900 runs hotter than the t9800 as its a overclocked t9800 basically the t9800 idles and maxes a good amount cooler than the t9900 does
-
Are you sure it's not because you have an engineering sample? They're supposed to have the same TDP -- I suspect people would be disappointed if the 4.5% improvement in performance causes a noticeable increase in heat.
-
no i have a sl spec oem t9900 not a es one its hotter by about 4 or 5 deg than the oem t9800 both again oem chips not es

Very interesting master shake.
So you are right it probably is just an OC T9800.... -

We really need more quads though badly.
q9000 is not to famous with its low 2ghz base for gamers as it can cause a cpu bottleneck (thought it would be faster than even the x9300 for multi tasking or rendering)
so its a pretty big jump in cost to the q9100 for "only" about 200mhz more (and a double size cache) but still leaving you with that feeling of wanting a bit more.
So then is the qx9300 with 2.53ghz thats good, infact thats perfect, fast enough for games and most laptops that can hold it will have an overclock mode for it to push it near 3ghz, but since its the "x" series its overpriced.
So we need a 2.5-2.8ghz none extreme quad chip that can retail for like $600 -

T9800:

11.5 at 3.06 for my t9900 and 11.0 for the t9800

Thanks for the info. My P8400 2.26GHz has an 8.5 multiplier. There's something about the half multipliers that I never liked . . .
-
Agreed on the dislike for half multipliers...
