Well, all right, that's not quite true. But Intel is betting big on bringing voice control to Ultrabooks, and they're paying big bucks to Nuance to make it happen.

As nice as Siri can be, I'd love it if my Windows 8 PC could do similar stuff. I'd be thrilled if I could be typing a document in Microsoft Word and then just press a button and say, "Play Johnny Cash" and my media player opens in a background window and plays some Johnny Cash songs from my music library. Or I could say, "Find out about the Bermuda Triangle" and my browser opens up (in the background) and does a Google search for the Bermuda Triangle.
A convenient user experience like that would make me very likely to spend money on a new Windows 8 PC. -
Why just Ultrabooks instead of all intel-toting Windows 8 machines?
This would be a huge competitive boost to Atom-equipped and Ivy-Bridge-equipped iPad-fighting convertible tablets like the Envy X2 and the Vaio Duo 11. -

Agreed. It should be all Windows 8 PCs ... but remember that we're talking about Intel and not Microsoft. Intel has a ton of money riding on the success of Ultrabooks.
Sure, Intel cares about Windows 8, but they REALLY want to provide customers with reasons to spend more on Ultrabooks. -
So, they're not entirely saying, but I suspect it may only be that it's free and pre-installed on these Ultrabooks. Nuance isn't stupid, and they know that there's a market out there for their Dragon Assistant software - but you might have to pay for it.
