Wow, these new designs look very nice! Maybe I missed it in the descriptions, but does the dv2000 have a webcam at the top? or is that just a mic?

Optional NVIDIA GeForce Go 7200 discrete graphics with Intel, and standard NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics and NVIDIA nForce Go 430 chipset with AMD processors

While I think it's great that HP has many models with both Intel and AMD, it just seems to me that AMD is getting screwed over with integrated graphics solutions.

Purty. Nice to see they used the good GeForce 6150, that's the best integrated GPU out there and the 430 does gigabit Ethernet. Now all HP needs to do is introduce a 17" Turion X2 version with Go 7600 or 7900 graphics and it's upgrade time again :D.

Edit: it's slightly annoying that the Intel notebook gets a discrete GPU and the AMD notebook doesn't, but there's no equivalent to the 6150 for Intel and the 7200 is very low-end. System power consumption should be noticibly better on the Turions. For a thin-and-light the 6150 is acceptable. If that's all they offer on their 15.4" and 17" notebooks (assuming they're working on them) I'll be disgusted but hopefully they won't do that. (The triumph of hope over experience?)

Both look great. I'm real happy to see HP/Compaq continue to support AMD laptops, although I am a little disappointed to see only integrated GPU's for AMD's.

Anyone know how the 6150 compares to the X200. I would have guessed they would have stayed with ATI GPU's. Hmm, I may have to concider Linux again.

What I would like to know is how much power can the new AMD x2 CPU will save? Will it be worse or better or the same as the Core Duo? If its good, I bet that it is powerful as well. If so, it is a definite winner.... Has anyone heard of any compatability problems w/the Turion 64 CPUs? And can Mac OS X install on the Turion?

Turion X2's have the same TDP as the Turion ML (35W), which is better than the Core Duo.

The desktop 6150 is slightly better than the desktop X200, so I'd expect the same for the mobile versions. We won't know for certain until benchmarks are done. I'm just happy to see a nVidia GPU for Linux compatibility. 64-bit Fedora Core 5 should be VERY nice on these notebooks.

Turions are just high-efficiency Athlon 64'sso since MacOS X will run on the desktop Athlons it'll run on the Turion. Support for the other components (video, chipset) will be the possible sticking point.

It is said 6150 has better comparablity than X200 in Linux 64. Besides, the ATI southbridge(485M2?) is actually from Nivida, and Nivida stopped the chip supply month ago(anyone got confirmed?). All current Motherboard manufactors are using there stocked ATI chip to keep production line. That's why you will see the price difference of MicroATX motherboard with integrated GPU. ATI brand will always cheaper than 6150. I guess HP/Compaq can't wait for ATI coming with new chip, and shift to Nivida which is smart.

I am really suprised Compaq has quick play feature, but I can't find extra buttons similar to HP. Just wonder how would they do it? Uniwill has that feature without extra buttons, but it was really a Flashed Linux just power up everything except Hard Drive. Would Compaq do the samething?

nVidia bought ULi who made the southbridge that most 200M chips were paired with. ATI has had trouble designing their own southbridge but they do have one I think.

The specs are not bad IMO. The performance difference between the Go7200 and th 6150 wont be too great. Nothing that is going to make a big difference in gaming. But to be fair they should have offered similar specs in their Intel & AMD based systems.

    Black is back baby!!!
Finally HP/Compaq decided to lay down those cheap quicklaunch buttons and kept the design minimalist. The Compaq black is gorgeous. Will the outside be silver ?

And I can't wait to see battery life of those X2. But 6 cells on a core duo... does it mean 2.5 hours ?

There are clear design changes between the 2. Look at the USB ports, the DVD drive, the screen hinges, the position of the top buttons and also the front audio jacks. They shre the same internal components, although they do not mention the Go7200 as an option in the Compaq. They might be trying to differentiate their brands and position the Compaq as a lower cost alternative.

Battery life should be around the same range as the currently offered dv1000t which is around 2.5hrs.

The lower bevelling line in front of the mouse pad for the DV2000 is also not present on the V3000. Intel solution for the V3000 seems to be only available with intel integrated grap. card. No remote for V3000. I prefer the V3000 design, but it's a shame that there's no webcam!

Why in the world would they choose the Go 7200 when Dell can put the Go 7300 in a 12.1" laptop? I personally love the design of the dv2000 and am highly dissapointed by HP's choice of GPU.

true, but the 14.1" equivalent Dell e1405 has no dedicated graphics whatsoever (nor will they offer it as they have confirmed to us), so HP actually has a slightly more powerful config here.

Yeah, I see your point there. It's a terrible waste for such a nice design is all.

Exactly how fast is the GeForce Go 7200 anyway? Any faster than the desktop Radeon 9600 Pro?

    Whoa, that's down right sexy. Is this the general look of other laptops in HPs up coming line up? I like the direction. Maybe Toshiba and particularly Dell will feel pressured to change there designs now. Heh... now I'm falling for the Dv2000. Someone save me. x.x;

    J/k XD!

As long as the Go 7200 is dedicated and will run TheSim2 in the rare event I play it, I'm straight. Any idea when in May? Two weeks from now? Three weaks from now? They're lieing and its actually the beginning of June?

Just saw the Compaq V3000. That notebook looks sexier than a lot of ASUS laptops, inlcuding the W3J.

However I want to know about that geforce 6150. I mean come on..its an older generation video card. Why no 7200/7300/7400??

Well, it still rocks my boat, since I finally have an nvidia with turion setup for awesome linux experiance.

I love the design on these - HP has the best designed consumer mainstream notebooks in my opinion.
The latch-free design, touch buttons are all great upgrades. Definitely makes it more modern and adds to the 'smoothness' of the design.

Somewhat disappointing graphics as usual on the AMD one, but the Go7200 (haven't heard of that before) is a welcome addition to the Intel one. Not high-end, but at least it is dedicated, unlike the graphics of previous 14" HP Pavilions.

Glad to see the Turion X2 has found its first home.

Thanks. I hope they are quite a bit cheaper once they are out. Better yet...in a tablet pc.

nVidia page on the Go 7 series. The chart at the bottom doesn't list the memory type used by the 7200. Are we sure that the 7200 is a dedicated memory GPU?

Yes, I like the overall designs on the HPs are better. Everything is in the right place, the designs are well thought out, and just the right amount of textures and colors are added.
The Sony FE is my favorite Sony - that one I'll make an exception. It's gorgeous, higher-end than the HP dv5000t, but at a much higher cost.

So crushed that the Turoin X2 is futher crippled by a ****ty integrated nvidia video card.

Looks like the dv2000 is a nice laptop with yonah (core duo) and nvidia gf 7200, too bad nothing similiar from compaq with the turion x2

How does the gf7200 compare with gf6150??

They shouldnt be too far off. The 6150 is probably the best integrated graphics on the market. The performance difference should not be too great. If you are into gaming the Go7200 can be more or less considered to be just as bad/good as the 6150. I havent seen any actual benchmarks of the Go7200 but from the reviews of the 6150Go's desktop relative performance should be in the same range and slightly better than the 200m which HP currently offers in their notebooks...

Wow, finally the dv1000/v2000 are going to retire.
Kind of tired after seeing them for 2 years.
Can't believe a notebook design can last that long.
And finally they put the speakers up right down the monitor.
Although it is late (compared to other brands like Sony) at least they are willing to listen.
Now when are they going to move the touch pad a little bit to the left so that it aligns with the space bar?
Oh, don't compare these to Dell's.
    Dell's ones look horrible.
They have the worst notebook design (look, thickness, and weight); the only good thing is they are cheap.

Wow, HP has really spiced up their notebook's designs (they look a lot better than Dells at any rate)! I can't wait to see the new notebooks with dedicated graphics cards.
