HP adds dual-core AMD Neo option for Pavilion dv2z

Today HP went live with two new AMD Athlon NEO X2 dual-core processor options for the Pavilion dv2z. Now you can configure the dv2z with a Neo X2 L335 or Neo X2 L625 processor, which add $25 or $75 to the price of the notebook respectively. To configure the dv2z with either of those processors, you must also upgrade the graphics card from the base X1250 integrated graphics to the Radeon 3410 dedicated graphics for an additional $50.

The AMD Athlon Neo X2 L335 Dual-Core Processor L335 (1.6 GHz) offers 512k of onboard L2 cache, whereasAMD Turion Neo X2 L625 Dual-Core Mobile Processor bumps L2 cache to 1MB. Both dual-core processors offer a max power consumption of 18W.

They're also now offering an option for 1Gb or 2Gb of RAM. Wasn't only 4Gb before?

Also it's weird that it doesn't look like it's using the Congo platform with the M780G chipset. The integrated GPU option for Athlon Neo x2 is still the X1250 instead of the HD 3200 and to get the Turion Neo x2 you have to upgrade to the dedicated 3410 GPU.

 

Both dual-core processors offer a max power consumption of 18W.

Is that correct?! So the faster Turion performs at the same power consumption as Neo X2?

EDIT: oops didn't read it carefully. So it's Turion Neo X2 vs Athlon Neo X2. Not Turion vs Neo.... I thought they just slap in a regular Turion processor.

 

wow. This is great news. If the laptop is good with heat and fan noise, Hp's got a winner.
Now intel should strike back with a dual-core Atom.
Isn't 18 watts too high??? no>???

 

Athlon Neo? Turion Neo? It should just be Neo or Neo X2.

They have worked in price increases....EXTREMELY disappointed in HP, if you spec this machine out the way the original model was it comes out MORE.

I spec'd this thing out the way I wanted and it came in over $1000 AFTER REBATE! Major fail HP/AMD.

 

DON'T buy this laptop until after June 28th! You WILL NOT be eligible to upgrade to Windows 7!

 

What were your specs, out of curiosity?

 

L265 with HD3400 graphics and 4Gb of ram with bluetooth and n networking....you know, pretty standard specs.

Charging $30 extra for 64-bit OS is just gouging considering it is a no cost switch on many of their other systems.

 

I'm just glad they have the dedicated video and 4gb of ram as only $50 upgrades.

I think I'm gonna try to order with Vista basic even though it says it's incompatible and just grab the 7 RC.

 

Agreed.....on almost ever other lappy, it's no cost (unless you want Vista Ultimate).

I'll give HP a 'FAIL' there....

 

Just to clarify, its an upgrade from Home basic (32bit) to Home Premium (64 bit).

 

With the 30% off coupon, with the top CPU, 4gb single dimm ram, 320gb hdd, top GPU, N-wifi it comes to $700!!!. Just get rid of the 4gb stick on ebay for $150~$200 and you are looking at an awesome laptop with the external optical drive (which is included in the price) for $550!!!!

Not so sure you could get $150-200 for that DIMM seeing as there are generic 4GB parts that you can buy for about $50 brand new.

I just configured a system and noticed a few oddities... The external drive, and blue-ray drive were options when I configured it at first and now they're not longer showing as available.

Also the choice between 32bit and 64bit is also a choice between vista basic and premium, I think previously it always came with vista premium 64bit. There's an extra $30 sneaked in for users that want to get discrete graphics as you cannot configure it without premium and a dedicated graphics setup.

Anyway, I think I'll give HP a call and see what I can bargain with the laptop I've got on price, or I'll sit on it and wait for a few weeks to get in on the Windows 7 upgrade before I order a new one.

The 30% coupon does make this a pretty good deal, at list price they're pricing themselves wayyy out of the market with a loaded up system.

Also wish the lighted keyboard was available for the build to order system.

Select the black chassis (expresso black) option. The external drivers will appear as an option.

 

Yup, I just looked over what I had seen earlier and noticed the cheap 4gb listings are 2x2gb chips. Whoops! Honestly though I'd be willing to bet those 4gb chips aren't too far away from being in the $50 range.

I didn't think that the memory alone in the DV2 I got recently would account for 15-20% of the total cost, and all honestly I bet they pay far less for it currently. How else could they get away with including it on the ready to ship models? And the fact that the 1030us model is the one you see at staples and such says something about the volume of chips they're moving.

Anyway, good catch! Going to call HP tomorrow and see what they're willing to do, staples has my model for about $100 less then I just spent.

Even been eying the DV3 at about the same price with alot more features and power, just concerned it may be getting too big.

 

Please dont misinform others. If you had done a quick search on newegg, you would have noticed that the cheapest 4gb 1dimm stick is $139.

Also, just so you know, 4gb sticks used to be $200. The sinking prices are attributed to slowly falling demand as ddr3 production ramps up. (Not many people needed 4gb 1dimms to begin with)

You'll also notice that the previous dv2 had an external dvd drive with it as well. Those aren't cheap either.

Btw. if you want to bet on something you can bet the dv2 being a culv is much sleeker of a laptop than the dv3.

 

You registered to post on here to say that I shouldn't be misinforming people because made a mistake on a price quote, when I rescinded my statement just 6 hours after I realized the error?

I don't use NewEgg as my standards for searching for a deal, lots of times they may not have the best price so I use price engines that search all online vendors. Just thought I had seen a single stick 4gb on that list when I didn't, my fault.

When configuring a new DV2, the external DVD drive is a $50 option which is a good price. Little disappointed that it's not included standard, but I suppose there are lots of people who would rather have $50 off the laptop itself.

I'm sure the DV2 is a much sleeker laptop, I will probably stop by Best Buy today to compare them and see what I think of the DV3's size.

yes but before there wasn't even 32-bit as an option, because 4Gb was standard....and it still should be!

 

I don't think 4gb should be standard, especially because it's only a single stick of ram. Without that 50% off for it it'd be a $100 upgrade, which is something I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't want to get because of the price, the same with the external optical drive. I probably would of bought the old DV2 if it only had 2gb of ram and no external optical since that would of probably of taken $200 off the old price.

actual Intel has dual core ulv processors, the problem is nobody has them on the shelf ready to buy, I think theres very few laptops with the su9300

 

Sony Vaio TT is one.

Will there be an update for the official review of the dv2z? I'm curious to see how the new dual-core Neos benchmark.

 

does anyone know how the boradband option works? Is there a PCI mini card in there with both a CDMA and WCDMA modem and a sim card? it makes no sense to me because on the configurator it said verizon/sprint/att and it can only be one or ther other.

 

That means they offer two different modems...

Is it possible to see how the new dual core will differ in benchmark compared to the original 1.6 GHz Neo?

Also, I'm curious as whether the new 2UT (formerly named Congo) platform introduces a newer and more powerful dual core ultra thin processor or is it just paired up with a better graphics card?

 

Is there any way at all to get one of these in Canada as I feel rather let down here.

 

Yay for reviving month-old threads! I was just curious if anyone had benchmarks on the new Athlon X2 Neo and Turion X2 Neo processors... This was all I could find on the Turion, but I'm more interested in the Athlon since it's $75 cheaper in the HP dv2z.
