<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-11-04T10:42:22 -->The HP ZT1000 is a pretty old laptop, it uses a Pentium 4-M processor and weighs a hefty 7.6-pounds. Though it is a few years old, it's not from the Victorian Ages -- but one technology tinkerer who blends old age design with current technology has refurbished an HP ZT1000 to look like it's straight out of the year 1850.
This is what an HP ZT1000 looked like when it was released in 2003:
And after a man named Doc Datamancer took his talent for taking a modern day piece of technology and making it look like it's from the Victorian ages, in what's called "Steampunking", his ZT1000 looks like this:
(view large image)The best thing is that the Steampunked ZT1000 turns on with a wind of the key you see at the front, it can boot into Windows XP or Linux Ubuntu.
(view large image)The specs of this laptop include a 1.9GHz Pentium 4-M processor, 512MB of RAM, 15-inch active matrix screen, ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 graphics with 32MB of VRAM, 40GB HD and CD-RW/DVD combo drive. The case is made of brass, wood and leather. See the entire project and more pictures at Doc Datamancer's website. This is what you'd call a working piece of art -- see the ornateness of the lid if you had any doubt about that:

Wow, that is an impressive makeover . I am tempted to
"Steampunk" my Toshiba 1115-S103(6.8 lbs,Celeron 1.5 GHz) but Its more useful as a paperweight
The clock-winding key and the hidden power switch are also pretty sweet.
BTW, are you thinking of doing this?(I happened to notice that you were looking at a FS thread for a HP ZT1000- a old thread though) -
Looks like he had a lot of time on his hands.
-
That's got to take over a hundred man hours to do, I'd never have the patience or the talent to create something like that.
-
i bet its even heavier now. who would carry something like that around. well i bet thats not the purpose. but idk. not my cup of tea.

Andrew - why dont you have the picture of when its closed? i think thats the coolest part, makes it look 10x better in my opinion
and roor, i hope you didnt think he actually carries that around or that it was even ment to carry around -

What an ugly laptop that used to be. Now it's gotten an extreme makeover and all is good...
-
Cool, but I'm not pretty if it was uglier before the makeover or after. This is why I love my SZ<3
-
It looks absolutely marvelous when closed, but I'm not too convinced that its much better when opened.

That's truly impressive. Rather ingenious keyboards he has for sale, too.

That's very impressive. Looks like it came right out of a movie, maybe Jumangi or something similar. I'm guessing he used an older notebook so he didn't have to worry about destroying it in case something went wrong.

At first I thought the trackpad looked really weird in the makeover...then I checked again and noticed that the original already looked like that .
But that is an impressive makeover. Yeah leomax, its Pimp My Notebook (Ancient Style) . -
WHY???????????!!!!!!!!!
Although.... The specs are really similar to the specs my Dad's old (possibly Victorian) Gateway Solo 600: 1.6GHz P4-M, 1Gb RAM (Originally 512MB), 15.7" 4:3 aspect screen, ATi Radeon 7500 Graphics, and a 30GB HD. Perhaps it could be turned Victorian, or at least pimped out in one way or another.
In case you're wondering what the Solo 600 looks like...
-
I have no problem with Why. After all, why make art? Why exercise craftsmanship? If anything, this guy should make a lot of $$ for his efforts. There's a lot of humor, too.
I wonder if that HP has any heat issues? -
Naw... "Pimp Thy Notebook"
Looks awesome. Too bad it runs on coal.... -
This victorian makeover is such a fad...
