HP unveiled the rest of their new fall notebook lineup this morning with a deluge of laptops. Aimed at both businesses and consumers, it's clear that HP has taken thin and light to heart.

"the Sleekbook 14 will be powered by AMD APUs (CPU/Graphics), while the Sleekbook 15 will be running on Intel chips and chipsets."

Do not mess this one up HP, make sure that damned 14" Sleekbook arrives with an AMD A10 APU!

It reminds me of the trend of Dell's last (before now) XPS line looking like really nice Inspirons - this ENVY looks like a nice, metal Pavilion. Not up to snuff next to the other ENVY options, imo.

exactly my point, they only look like metal clad pavillions. Despite the serious macbook heavy influences on the envy line, they have some differences, though I do prefer the 1st and 2nd gen envy 15, they looked really interesting and packed a lot of power. The problem was the chassis in the 1st and 2nd gen when equipped with quads, it got extremely hot, actually uncorfomtable to use (had the first one).

I do think that HP needs to put a unique DNA in their envy line, more than it actually is right now. experiment a lot, you dont need to look like a macbook to look good, quite the contrary.

Well, if you ask me, it is looking more and more like Macbook. Nothing to argue with. Users want minimalistic thin design - they do it, which is great.

There was mention of a 1080p display but I think that might only apply to the 15" version. 1600x900 would've been more than enough for the 14" Sleekbook, at least the option maybe.

Edit: I've also noticed that the Pavilion Sleekbook 14 doesn't include the usual Beats audio treatment. Instead, they're just using Altec Lansing branded speakers (which isn't a bad thing) & not adertising any Beats audio or subwoofer add-on. Is there really a difference?

Also, it seems like the Pavilion Sleekbooks won't be using any metal or aluminium cases but instead look plastic-ky. I'm sad to see the backlit keyboard not being mentioned either.

Will HP still continue to sell the ENVY Sleekbook?

The Envy buttonless touchpad was horrible. I'm glad they're using touchpads with dedicated buttons again. I know buttonless ones are "all the rage", but really, few companies have gotten them right (besides Apple). Other than that, I can see that it does look more like a Pavilion, but I'm glad to see the regular touchpad back.

I just hope they offer them with higher resolutions than 1366x768...it's 2012, people...

Do not mess this one up you say? Oh they'll find a way! Lol they always do.

At least in this next round they made the AMD model the 14.0" and the Intel model the 15.6". I can't help but notice the resemblance to the g4/g6/g7 and it seems like all the models got knocked down a level.

I didn't even notice the buttons on the touchpad on this new Pavilion Sleekbook until you mentioned it. I also prefer two real physical buttons. I've read online that there will be a 1080p display available but no one specifies for which model it'll be available for. I'm speculating it'll be the same 15.6" panel that was/is available on the current dv6. I can't see HP offering a 1080p display for the 14.0" AMD Pavilion Sleekbook. There is however a 14.0" 1600x900 matte display available in the ProBook 6475b that I would love to see available! Please do it HP! :)

Hi, my name is HP and I've just done a lot of work with the recent Envy 15 and Envy 17 and Envy 14 Spectre to really bring "premium" back to the Envy name. Now that I've accomplished that, what should I not do? I know, I should not attach the Envy name to a metal-clad Pavilion with a 14" 1366x768 screen!!!

It's 2012. You know what that means? It means that 1366x768 is for 10-12" screens (particularly if IPS, like the X230 and the Envy X2), not for 14"-15.6" screens that are claiming to be on a premium product.

I sincerely hope HP fixed the issues with their Sleekbooks; they lost a lot of my respect after I got to review their ENVY Sleekbook 6z:
HP ENVY Sleekbook 6z Review: Is Being Thin Enough?
I'm glad they switched to calling them "Pavilion Sleekbooks" though ; it makes a lot more sense and sounds better. On a side note I think "ENVY" is a clumsy name ...anything marketed with an all-caps name is clumsy in my book.
    ----

I'm hoping to see low resolutions gone entirely in the next few years off of 13"+ notebooks. If Apple didn't introduce its ultra high-res iphone and now macbook displays (aka the magic "retina" display), I'd have no hope of that.
Of course, PC makers are only concerned about the bottom line because they make PCs, which are commodities; Apple computers are not. So there still might not be hope.

The Envy renaming mystery is solved. HP is now going to use the "Pavilion" name for budget machines like the G6, and the "Envy" name will now be used for mainstream machines like the dv6 and dv7. It appears the premium consumer laptops like the Envy 15 and Envy 17 will be axed entirely.

This makes about as much sense as killing Cadillac and putting Cadillac badges on Chevy Malibus, if you ask me.

ahhh lovely strategy, kill a brand that is giving you money and recognition, by diluting it until all of its value is gone in some second class design and quality product. premium without a premium you ask? we do it!

Ohh, I thought M4 is a Pavilion, so surprised to read the Envy:thumbsup:. And Sleekbook 14 is a thin Pavilion G4?
Never mind, I've got everything reading further the comments. I was just hoping Sleekbook 14 is a quality brushed-metal one like Sleekbook 6z. Shame no AMD for M4 :(, otherwise I gonna buy that and settle my Trinty misery.

What APUs will be available with the Pavilion Sleekbook? Or is that information not available. Does any know where to find its service or hardware manual?

And a 1080p screen. And as mentioned already, discrete buttons on the trackpad.

Yes, some would argue that 1080p on a 14" screen is overkill, but I would seriously consider the ux21a with a 1080p 11.6" screen, if I could find one.

I found a 14.0" and 15.6" HP Pavilion Sleekbook spec page using Google search & both are available with Intel processors. I wonder if the same will apply to the AMD-variants. It was only mentioned that the 14.0" would carry AMD APU.

Is it just me, or has HP gone and - at the very least - entirely confused the market about their product line. I really have no idea what "Envy" "Sleek" "Spectre" "M" "G" or even, at this point "Pavillion" stand for. If I was looking for a 14, 15 or 17" HP laptop I wouldn't have a clue where to begin. And I have been accused in the past of being an HP Fanboy - and was! Oh well.

Simplify man! HP's trying to offer variety but some of their lines quickly get washed down. I wish there were a bit fewer models but with more individual customization, displays being a key factor.

indeed, they used to have some customization before. But now all they offer is sock models. I wish i would given the privilege of selecting my own options of hardware!
