HP's recent summer launch event proved to be one of the biggest in the company's long history. Despite that, a few things slipped under the radar, including HP's new Ultrabook rival, the Sleekbook. An invention of HP and HP alone, can further dividing the market really be a good thing?

Sleekbook is just another word for the already-existing class of "ultraportable." I never liked the term "ultrabook" because its boundaries were so arbitrary. Namely, two of the best Windows ultraportables--the Vaio Z and the Samsung Series 9--are not "ultrabooks." Likewise, the top seller in the ultraportable class--the MacBook Air--is not an "ultrabook" either.

I'm just going to keep calling all Airs, ultrabooks, sleekbooks, and other extremely thin-and-light laptops "ultraportables" ;)

What? Mitlov, you expect notebook manufacturers to be rational and not try to come up with a trademarked product category name every time they announce a new product?

To think that manufacturers would just accept the fact that these product categories already have names ... that's crazy talk. ;)

Spoiler alert: Instead of calling it a "compact camera" Nikon has decided to launch the all-new "Premium Mini Photo-Video Slice (TM)"

Meanwhile, RedBull, frustrated over the abundance of "energy drinks" on the market has decided to release it's new class of beverage: the RedBull PowerJuiceWaterFusion (TM). Coca Cola is rumored to soon follow with their own form of PowerJuiceWaterFusion, the Coke "UltraPowerLiquidRush (TM)"

    Haha, touche.

By the way, a couple of typos where "sleekbook" was transposed with "ultrabook":

I wouldn't call the sleekbook an ultrabook rival. Sleekbooks are more "we like ultrabooks, but we want to do X, but doing X disqualifies it for being an ultrabook, wth should we do? Make our stupid marketing name!"

Also, I don't see AMD needing to funnel money anywhere for sleekbooks. R&D for chassis design has already been heavily paid for by Intel, and some sleekbooks are practically AMD chips inside standard ultrabook chassis. All AMD has to do is get those 17 watt Trinity's out already.

I absolutely see sleekbooks as ultrabook rivals. Wash away all the marketing mumbo-jumbo, and a sleekbook is basically an ultrabook processor with an AMD processor instead of an Intel processor. Seems like a direct competitor to me.

I think the 15 inch Sleekbook may contain a 4600M.

Does anyone have a review of the HP 6t-1000 ultrabook? I'm interested in getting it because I want a 15" screen while being as portable as possible and with an island style keyboard if possible. My other consideration right now is the vizio thin and light 15", although it has a pretty standard looking keyboard. I can't find a review for the 6t-1000 anywhere and my main concern is the screen on it: 1366x768 seems subpar.
