HP has quietly rolled out the latest Intel mobile processor family, code named Penryn, into their Pavilion dv2700t, Pavilion dv6700t and Pavilion dv9700t consumer targeted notebooks.
If you visit HPShopping.com now and go to the configuration screen you will get an option for selecting an Intel T9300 2.50GHz Core 2 Duo processor. The T9300 comes from the latest Core 2 Duo line of Penryn processors and offers a larger 6MBL2 cache andabout a 10%performance boost over the equivalent Santa Rosa processor. HP is one of the first major vendors to offer Intel'sPenryn in a mainstream non-gaming notebook, Dell is notably absent from having Penryn available in any of its laptops at the moment.
HP Pavilion dv6700t notebook (view large image)The cost of the upgrade to the highest-end processor (2.50GHz Penryn) is $225 at the moment on HP's site. So is the price worth it? It depends on your needs, but for most people this is too much power for too high a cost, wait a few weeks and there should be more Penryn options for less cost.

To give a little hint at its performance, compared to the T7300 in the last Qosmio, with only the CPU changing to the T9300 performance jumped 30% in some cases. Battery life during this also managed to stay identical to the last, and I think improving by like 2 minutes.

IMO, the new HP imprint (Verve) looks like poo... they really need to offer options for what "imprint" you want. (The Verve, the previous two and the white one -- forgot what that one's called, but it was on the Best Buy SE models and online for a while.)

So what's the ETA for Dell then? And will they launch them in say one market first or across the board?

So the 9300 is @ 2.5GHZ! If Intel follow the usual naming of their processor line, will we see 9700's and 9800's at 3.0 GHZ + ?
