Hello Folks,
I'm interested in the V2000. But I have a question about the 6 cell battery. From a previous photo on this thread, it looks as if it may be uncomfortable while on your lap with the battery sticking out, assuming the 6 and 12 cell are the same size.
Does anyone have the V2000 with either the 6 or 12? If so, just how comfortable is that on your lap? Does it press into your legs or feel awkward in any way? That's my concern. Thank you for your reply!
God Bless[ ]

I had a v2000. Great machine to be honest. solid build, good keyboard, nice screen (Brightview), fairly fast especially if you're not playing games.
Now I had the 6 cell and got just uner 4 hours with it. It didn't stick out at all, nothing got hot and really looked great. I haven't seen it with the 12 cell but the pictures I have seen sure look odd.
Now I returned mine because of a clock not work when the machine hibernated or was shutoff. After reresearching everything, I decided to give Hp/Compaq one more try and ordered the V2000's sister, the Dv1000. Probably not work the little extra money, but I figured I liked the v2000, except the clock problem, let's see if I like it more with the couple of extra gadgets.
My 2 cents but stay with the 6 cell. -

I bought a Compaq V2069 from Samsclub. It is very similar to V2030 at other stores except the missing BrightView.
Pros,
1. Very good build quality. Feels solid and is light weight.
2. Strong battery life of 3-4 hrs with regular 6 cell battery (wireless on, low brightness and speakers not in use)
3. Very low to zero noise. The CPU fan is completely off sometimes and even when its on its very silent.
4. Doesn't get heated up like most other laptops. You can actually keep this on lap for hrs.
5. HP support is very good, you just need to be patient at times.
6. All the relevant ports like IEEE 1394 are there and in the right places.
7. Good JBL speakers for such a small size.
8. Light weight AC adaptor and very little crapware loaded by default onto the laptop.
9. Low prices for many configs.
Cons,
1. My model is missing the BrightView option and the screen is a bit hard to see, atleast till you get used to it. After seeing the BrightView at Bestbuy I would strongly recommend it.
2. DVD burner is only 4x on mine, which means 30+ mins for burning 1 DVD. Get the 8x version so that your laptop isn't obsolete from day 1.
3. Missing the remote option on hp DV1000 series. IMO every PC should come with a remote for mp3 and movies.
4. 1.4 GHz on Pentium M isn't cutting edge, I guess it would struggle with heavy applications or once Loghorn comes. (1.4 is the old Banias core and not the newer Dothan core.)
5. Bright LED's on the keybd/chassis are a pain in the night or when watching movies. But I guess all manufacturer's put them in varying colors & brightness to appear cool?
6. Volume control knob is missing on the outside of chassis. Instaed there are awkard little buttons inside.
7. Unwanted buttons with a dazzling LED and hazardous on/off feature for Wifi & touchpad. (I guess Apple would be my only choice for well refined laptops?)
8. Poor integrated graphics, not worth playing any games on.
In short the V2000 is an excellent and cost effective way to go mobile. As long as you get the Brightview screen, normal 6 cell battery, DVD+RW and 512MB you will be happy. For extra $100 you can go for hp DV1000 with same weight/components but some extra SW & a remote. Downgrading to Celeron M will save about $150 at the expense of performance, higher fan noise/heat and lower battery life.
Dell is too expensive by the time you load it up & too hard to buy with frequently changing combinations of coupons/rebates/promotions. Plus Dhell usually is crappier laptop than HPpaq from past experiences. Sony is much higher priced, you might as well save that extra $500 for your next laptop 2 yrs from now. -
I recently ordered and received the V2000,
to answer a few of your questions . . .
**The outer case is black plastic, very plain, no gloss or paint on it. It doesn't feel very sturdy, especially near the dvd area, the plastic will bend when you grab it and will move the dvd door a little bit.
**The 12-cell battery really sticks out and bumps up your computer about 1/2" from the ground in the back, BUT, when you are actually using your notebook, it makes it easier to type & it lasts approx. 7-10 hours. It also helps when you are carrying it with one hand, it gives you something to hold on to.
**Standby mode - out of the box, my notebook does not go into standby mode, it says "quick launch is preventing the stanby mode, driver may need to be updated", I updated the driver and it still does not go into standby mode. Anyone know of a solution to this problem???
**Bright View screen, the glare is pretty bad, but overall I think it looks nicer and is much easier on the eyes if you can avoid the glare, I don't know if I like it yet though.
**Keyboard is grey, comp is silver, it clashes -- but the keys are huge.
I guess the reason that I ordered this was the cheap price and the 12-cell battery option, but I was not aware of the bulky size of the battery when I ordered it. I am not sure yet if I will keep this one beyond the 30 days. If the notebook does not go into standby mode, then I don't think I will keep it. I am not sure if I will be able to tolerate the brightview screen either. Oh well, it was around $700 less than any other notebook that I am interested in. I'll keep trying to fix the standby (sleep?) mode for a week or so while I think about it.

Hi Everyone,
I recently bought a customised V2000 from best buy.Had to pay the sales tax.Notebook was delivered 10 days later.Do we have to pay sales tax when ordering from hpshopping?
My specs are:
P-M-735-1.7MHZ
Broadcom 54g wlan + bluetooth
8X DVD-RW/CD-RW
12 Cell Battery
No Brightview.
I find the HD a bit noisy and the touchpad a little less responsive.
Any further feedback from you guys will be appreciated.

Hi,
I just ordered a v2000. I am wondering what memory type it is using? Is it pc2100 266 MHz or it can also take pc2700 333 MHz? Hp ships it with the 266 Mhz, but I've heard that it can also work with the faster one. Any wisdom? Thanks. -
