Great review! The g6 is one of those notebooks that becomes much more impressive if you select some of the optional upgrades (like AMD Radeon graphics) but once you start adding those options it starts to get into the price range of the Pavilion dv6 ... which has better build quality.

Still, if you just want to browse the internet, check email and do some basic productivity work in Windows 7 then this is a good value at $499 or less.

Thanks Jerry. I think the g6 is a pretty good choice for people on a budget. If only it didn't have the glossy plastic and had a slightly better-feeling keyboard, I would have liked it a lot more.

The dv6 is a much nicer notebook in my opinion but I'd only encourage people to spend an extra $100 for it. If you found the g6 for $400-450, that would be a real deal.

just something to note, you mentioned the hard drive was 7200 rpm in the review, but a quick google search says it's 5400 rpm (plus I own a seagate momentus 7200.4 500GB, and the model number is different).

unfortunately 5400rpm drives are standard in most budget notebooks. on the plus side (apart from cost) they may run very slightly cooler than a 7200rpm drive and give a few extra minutes of battery life.

I always enjoy reading the reviews on here. pretty much everything i'm interested in hearing about in a computer is covered. keep up the great work!

Thanks, you are correct it is a 5400 RPM drive.

5400RPM drives are slow indeed, as a general rule I think they should be reserved for storage and not used as primary drives. Just too slow of access times.
