<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-09-16T23:40:02 -->HP will be releasing the configurable dv2600 laptop this week with the same Verve design as that seen on the Best Buy dv2550se laptop sold earlier in the summer. The HP dv2600 was featured this weekend at a tech show in Singapore.
(view large image)The dv2600 is already featured on the Australian HP website and drivers for this particular dv2600 edition are up on the U.S. website as well. On the Aussie website you can find the following quote: "HP Pavilion dv2600 Special Edition delivers the very best in digital entertainment with the latest processor technology that hands you a powerful computing platform with performance to spare. It is as individual as you are, featuring a special 'verve' graphic inspired by the fluidity of life, laser-etched by an inlaid moulding process."
(view large image)I'm not sure about that zen-like fluidity of life reference, but the design sure looks nice. The copper color accents are a favorite of mine. The dv2600 will have the same configuration possibilities as the dv2500t notebook, meaning configuration options and specs will be the following:
- Processor: Intel Centrino Duo (Core 2 Duo) up to 2.20GHz
- Memory: Up to 4GB Ram
- Graphics: Intel X3100 or NVIDIA 8400M
- OS: Windows Vista
- Optical Drive: 24X DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive OR, Super Multi 8X DVD +- R/RW with Double Layer Support (s) OR, LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD +- R/RW with double layer support

oh marketing departments how I love you so (id write a ballad but im tired) -
Excellent, I loved the design of the Verve special edition at Best Buy, way better than the standard DV2000 design. Great to see its now customizable.
-
That is a gorgeous machine, i could stare at it all night....
-
I like the black touchpad. but i would love to see a high quality Matte black edition with t he HP logo pure black as well but in relief
-
Excellent. I might need to return the Vostro now.....This is just too nice looking. I assume that the 5.8lbs is with the extended battery, and that a standard (lighter) one will be available?
Also, based on the pricing of the dv6500se, I think it will be a couple of hundred more expensive than the regular dv2500t. -
We better get this in effing Canada. With the 8400M GS, too.
Lately HP seems to have forgotten about Canada. -
HP never update the stuff in the european market.
-
"It is as individual as you are" -- only million were produced .
So minus the hdmi , was it worth skipping the 30% off ? -
That's a fantastic looking laptop, if only if it came with an 8600m GT....
Something in me suspects the design and aesthetics of the laptop design that HP employs in their current generation of laptop somewhat makes it difficult to incorporate greater GPU power in their designs, but for people who don't game, HPs are quite appealing. -
As for that dv2600 verve, all they need to do now is come out with a dv6600 version with the same design and at least a GeForce 8600 series graphics card, then I'd be all over it.
But then again, come to think about it, I'd never buy a pavilion until they start to improve the keyboards on them. They're among the worst keyboards I've typed on, IMO. If they could improve it to HP Compaq business level, or at least Dell Latitude level, then it'd be perfect. Yes, I am a keyboard bigot. -
I want it in white !!! Like the special edition 65000t.....looks Sweet though ! -
Yeh, the white special edition look alright. but i still want a matte black version with etched logo in relief
I wonder how long this imprint business will go for. ASUS is already copying it like crazy.....and now LG is following suit. Seriously............where are the designers? why arn't laptop companies [except apple] using them? -
Now that really looks nice . . .. to me at least . . .
If that thing comes with at least a 8600gs . . .. heck, even a 8400gt, the decision would be a lot easier . . . . -_-a -
Quick question i just ordered a custom hp dv6500t while that 30% coupon was hot, and now hp decided to release new models which look so nice, is it possible when my laptop comes to me later on next week, then return it and get another laptop and if they could still honor my coupon.

My dv2550se doesn't feel so special any more. Could they not have picked a new design rather than the Verve.
On the other hand, I don't expect to see any dv2600's in Canada for at least half a year - the current dv2500 still isn't available here (except for the Verve). -
It's not a silver metallic 'look' as you put it. It is 100% pure machined aluminum. thats real design. And i don't just mean aesthetics. -
Whether it's "tired" is probably a matter of debate - at this point I think the thing is, it's a design that has been refined, and seems to work fairly well.
One could make the same complaint about the ThinkPads, and I don't think it would be fair there either. The PowerBook/MacBook Pro design and the ThinkPad are both now classic designs. Frankly, I don't think either of them really need to be changed all that much.

The MBP still look nice, even after 6 years. I doubt the HP would last tat long, they ll have to come out with a new chassis and design in 2 years time.

I have had aluminum cases for my desktop way before Apple came out with its thin aluminum casing for its notebook. Yet aluminum is somehow real design when Apple comes out with a product.
Aluminum can also dent, especially aluminum of the super thin sheet metal variety.
Real design, hmmm? The same Apple that improperly applied thermal paste to their MacBook Pros 2 years ago and caused CPUs to overheat? Yes...real design by Apple. Overheating CPUs are now a fashion statement.
At least HP is trying something new. Apple is playing it safe with their designs. That modern, industrial look is sooooo 1999. -
Improperly applied thermal paste isn't what I would necessarily call a design issue.
Again though, what is wrong with playing it safe with a design when it works? This is like criticizing IBM/Lenovo for still using the same basic ThinkPad design.
HP is trying something new because their previous laptop designs weren't really very good.
-Zadillo -
Apple is just making rehashes of the same product like everybody else. Isn't Apple supposed to Think Different? -
-
Change just for the sake of change doesn't automatically equal good design. By the same token, taking a good design and changing it just for the sake of change isn't always a good choice either.
I get your sarcasm, but Apple doesn't always have to do crazy designs just to be "hip" and "cutting edge"; they do new designs when it is warranted (i.e. the iMac has seen a number of overhauls of its design), but they don't historically do design changes for the sake of design changes.
I get the impression though at this point you mainly just have some beef with Apple, hence the sarcasm, so I'm not sure if there's much point in discussing this further.
Re-using a design that works well isn't really anything to be ashamed of; Apple hit on a fairly iconic and classic and refined style with the aluminum PowerBook G4 in 2003 (itself a significant revision of the older titanium PowerBook G4), and to date, there hasn't been much reason to change it.
I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a new chassis design, but only when there is a reason to. The current MBP design frankly is still quite refined and elegant.
Honestly, outside of a radical change, I don't see a whole lot that necessarily warrants change at this point in time.
By the same token, I don't see a whole lot that HP needs to change with the current dv notebook designs. Nor that Lenovo should change with the T61 design.
Iconic designs become iconic because they hit on something good that just simply works. They only need to be replaced if a good reason comes along to replace it.

Best Buy Canada already has the dv2660SE for sale. I don't see much difference between that and the dv2550SE.

Lol, I have no beef with Apple. I just like to play devil's advocate to get to the truth. Apple's design is good. It would cost Apple money to design something new all the time. They got to make their shareholders happy, as with any other company.
I am hungry to see something new though. -
However, look at the specs - it's possibally the worst configuration ever (1.5 GHz and Intel Graphics??). What's the point of releasing a new model when the technology on the inside are a year old? The only difference between the DV2660SE and DV2550SE that I can see is a larger HD.. 90GB bigger for $200 extra dollars. Oh my! Where do I sign??? -

Didn't HP bring out the DV2500 like 5 minutes ago?
-
Wait, is the dv2600 going to replace the dv2500, or is it coming as an additional model to the dv2500, similar to the dv6500t and dv6500se?
And the dv2500t came out in May, so its not quite as recent as 5 minutes ago. -
Hmm, strange coincidence. Today I saw someone using HP laptop of that "verve design", and to be honest, I thought it was ugly. It is way too flashy for my taste, and I imagine design like that doesn't have very good staying power. But rather, it looks like a novelty design that gets bored soon (I much prefer how their business line looks, BTW). And yeah, I think Apple and Sony tend to do best when it comes to aesthetic of products, although they do have somewhat different styling from each other.
-
No more HP consumer laptops for me. They generally preform well but very cheaply built. My dv6500t would be the first and last.

Well, I can testify to the beauty of this laptop. I own one since 2 days ago.
In terms of overall performance this machine has been nothing but impressive. The only disadvantage comes when I'm playing CC3 at High settings. FPS is about 18-22. Not good. Lol. Medium settings for the game provides smooth flowing graphics though, so for me a non-gamer it's not a biggie.
One thing I'm sure though. For those who are planning to use their new laptop as a gaming laptop, it's time for you to look around for something else. This dv2616TX is a beauty, not a workaholic.
Oh and I bought this at $1608 (extended warranty to 3 yrs). -
Hmm, I'm still waiting for it to hit the HP store. I could get a dv2550se at Best Buy ($900 as of today), but that doesn't have dedicated graphics, and it has the extended battery, which sticks out of the bottom (I'd rather have the smaller, flush battery, even with lower runtime).
-
I really want to buy this laptop but I can't find it anywhere and I'm getting tired of waiting. Can anyone confirm when this will be available in Canada? any help is appreciated, thanks.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, it has been available for a while in Canada at Best Buy stores: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodd...Name=laptop_hp&logon=&langid=EN&test_cookie=1
If you are waiting for more options for this model, I wouldn't hold out - HP has released a very limited number of Santa Rosa notebooks in Canada. -
can we expect the customizable one in Canada before xmas? cuz im not waiting any longer then that, i am really close to buying the dv2500t but then i saw the verve design and i have to have it, soo how long are we looking at about?
-
Same as the last few posts, except I live in the US. Talk about a long agonizing wait!
-
Hi everybody. I am new to this forum. Do you know when this laptop going to be available at hp.com? I looked at the site but could not see it. If we buy this laptop from Best Buy is it possible to upgrade the graphics card?
-
Theoretically you can but it would require replacing the whole motherboard with one which offers the 8400M GS. No other graphics card upgrade would be possible. -
I like the black touchpad.
-
Man, when will this sweet laptop be released? It's been over a month and a half, and so far it's a no show for purchase on HP's site. =(
-
I think HP's exclusive agreement with Best Buy means this model won't be sold in countries where Best Buy is selling them (US and Canada?). Afaik, they are widely available in Asia-Pacific already with the following specs:
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium;
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7500 (2.20 GHz, Level 2 cache 4 MB, 800 MHz Bus speed);
2048 MB (2 x 1024 MB);
250 GB (5400 rpm);
Lightscribe Super Multi DVD Writer (+/-R +/-RW) with Double Layer support; NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS (up to 831MB total graphics memory with 64MB dedicated)
It has been shipped more than a month ago and are distributed in major retail channels. -
