HP will soon be updating its ZV5000 notebook line with the ZV6000. In addition the RT3000 will be replaced by the RT4000. We've got a few pictures of these laptops to share, but the specs are still rather sketchy.
HP Pavilion ZV6000
The Pavilion ZV6000 will be a 15.4" notebook with a widescreen LCD and BrightView option. We're guessing the ZV6000 will be offered like the ZV5000 is with a ZV6000Z AMD processor configuration and a ZV6000T with an Intel Pentium M processor. It will be interesting to see if this laptop is offered with the upcoming AMD Turion Mobile processor, according to reports from the website DigitTimes.com HP will be releasing notebooks in April that feature the AMD Turion Mobile processor so the ZV6000Z might well be that offering. Again, we're short on specs for this notebook but from pictures we can see that it has an Express Card slot, PCMCIA card slot, Media Card Reader built-in, FireWire port,3 USB 2.0 slots, monitor out port, optical drive on the left side and media buttons.

Compaq PresarioR4000
Once again we're short on hard specs for the R4000. We believe this will replace the R3000 model series from Compaq and will offer a R4000T Intel based model and R4000Z AMD based model. Looking at the pictures we can see it's a 15.4" widescreen notebook and has an Express Card slot, PCMCIA card slot, Media Card Reader built-in, FireWire port,3 USB 2.0 slots, monitor out port and paralell port. The look is very clean with few extra hardware buttons.

yeah, I hope so too! is it just me, or do those look like pretty thick laptops? How do HP's run thickness and weight wise compared to competitors?

Doesn't seem any thicker to me than the previous iterations contains P4's or the AMD's. We're just to used to seeing the thin Pentium M laptops, that's all.
--------------------
Laptop Requirements
- Sonoma
- ATI Mobility Radeon X700
- Thin & Light form factor
- 15.4" (bright/enhanced) screen, at least SXGA+
- Nice style -
oh, i thought the above HP was the one that was going to be configured with the new P M chip. If its for a P4 or an AMD, then its reasonable.

Power consumption of Turion64 is between 25W and 35W (depending on model), so I would expect a Turion-laptop this huge to be a higher-clocked version with a high-end graphics card. Why else would they make it this thick ?? After all, Turion was supposed to compete with Pentium M in the Thin & Light segment, while the Mobile Athlon64 was to be used in high-performance (gaming) notebooks...

The only thing that held me back from buying the zv5000z was the crappy, outdated graphics card.
Pack it with a low-voltage Athlon 64 or a Turion 64, put a better NVidia or ATI card in, pump up the battery life a bit, and this one's mine! -
Hello, I just read here about these new laptops coming out, I'm a newbie and I'd like some advice --
I was going to purchase the R3000Z in the next few days, and I have a few questions:
1) Does anyone know when these new laptop models are being released? Should I hold off before buying?
2) Is it likely there is going to be a supreme difference in the hardware?
3) Do you think the price will be similar to the current models? How much more?
4) Also, will HP keep selling the old models? Are they likely to go on sale in the near future?
I realize the specs aren't known yet, but anyone who has experience with what companies tend to do when new models come out, maybe can help answer these?
Thanks very much!

I had a r3240ca if its anything like it.....(looks almost like the compaq one just a couple of more buttons on this one)... well if its anything like that its probably about 3-4 cm thick... as for the hp I believe those are about the same ... its HP and Compaq they will probably disapoint and put some card like a trident or some generic piece of crap....the GeForce 4 440 GO was the reason why I got rid of mine

Can anyone give the specs on the new Compaq Presario R4000Z's screen resolution using the new ATI Radeon Xpress 200M, please don't tell me 1280 X 800 is the max, and what about for an external monitor as well? Reply here and/or [email protected] Thanks!

I have a similar question to Chi....
Will they ever offer screen upgrades beyond the 1280x800 screen like they did on the older zv5000/r3000. I got rid of my R3000 hoping I would pick up the newer systems with better screens, but apparently am at a loss since they don't offer them.
Thanks for any light people may shed.

I just received the zv6000. $650 after rebates!
There is no LPT1 Printer port. Is there an adapter made for this? My daughter has an older hp Deskjet printer.
Thanks! -

Yes, there is. You can get a USB cable with a parallel port on the end - it's a converter cable. You can get them pretty much any place that sells cables (Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc).
The old ZV5000 had a printer port, but I think HP figured that most new printers are USB, so they left it out. -
What they didn't realize is that their printers last long enough that people still use them now.
I'm still using the same printer we bought back in 1998. I'm sure there are people who are still using printers from 10 years ago just fine. -

Eli, I'm with you - I still have my faithful HP 722 deskjet from....'97 or '98 - I can't remember, that was so long ago!
And, I know plenty of other people who have older printers, like you said. -
Thanks, Chaz.
