IMO, this is the kind of system that should let the user configure windows 7 as an option. W8 demands a good touch pad and gesture suppport. Touch screen is also a big plus for W8. This is exactly why W8 is bombing. W8 experience is crap on these low end systems. Especially since this one can't even provide a decent touch pad. This one is guaranteed to frustrate! Its funny that just 6 months back there were plenty of cheap systems that could get the job done on W7. Now it costs over 800 dollars to get something that will provide a decent experience with W8. Not sure if the industry can get touch screen/good touch-pad systems at a 500 price point.. but they better if MS refuses to put a desktop toggle switch in.

I totally agree with the above, W8 is nothing special without touch feedback. I don't mind W8 as an OS but much prefer W7. Now as to the desktop toggle feature, that's no longer an issue with the plethora of Start Menu utilities. I've been using StartIsBack and Start8 and they both work great. StartIsBack is the better option because you can buy a 5 PC license for $5 whereas Start8 cost $4.99 per license. Decor8 is also a good option for the Start Page.

That's not really a good solution moving forward. Those are basically skinning tools that change the registry. Some have tried to install those on the leaked blue version of W8 and guess what? They didn't install. MS says they will be updating frequently on W8 and probably will be breaking start 8 or worse.

One thing I notice is how crappy these cheap laptops like this HP demo at places like BB or Costco. I've seen people look at these cheap notebooks with crap touchpads, no touch and just walk away. Its the 1000 dollars ones with IPS / touch/ and good gesture support that catches the eye with W8. But most just look past those systems when they see the price. So in the end, no purchase made. Vista had issues with inadequate HW but this time its worse. Its going to take more then another gig of ram to fix W8.

Umm ... no. It just doesn't look worth it to me - no matter how I look at it.
