Does anyone know if the screen on the 1080p HDX16t is a 6-bit or an 8-bit LCD?

My dad wants to buy one, but is a photographer and needs an 8-bit LCD.

The HDX16 looks like a good option for me but will it be available post Windows 7 launch, pre-loaded with W7? The new laptop range from HP appears to suggest that the HDX will disappear?

I bought it two months ago and its performances are great! I run WoW with 60 fps average, but I often get disconnected, probably just because of my Internet connection. The design is pretty cool, protected from scratches for the most part, and despite being glossy, the fingerprints on the laptop are surprisingly moderate.

Nevertheless, there are many cons (I'm maybe perfectionnist!!) :

    - I was disappointed with the keyboard, the spacebar was lifting on the corner which was very annoying. Future Shop is going to replace it for free.

    - The screen is not made to go outside, you see few things with all the sun reflections.

    - The chrome just below the screen seems to get out easily, if anyone has suggestions on how to arrange it, it would be very appreciated. However, it is a minor defect, the mark is very small.

    - The manifacturing quality of the disc drive is horrible. It is not attached solidly at the end, so the upper border is always lifting. I'm planning to put a VERY SMALL amount of crazy glue or something in the drive, in the corner below the border, which will probably stop this problem.

    - The engineer who designed the bar where all the touch-buttons are forgot about the fact that you can see the electronic parts through it. Maybe he was just a student and had to study capacitors, resistors and all kinds of induction coils?

    - If you think the ''free windows 7 upgrade'' is worth something, rough scene. I think you'll benefit more if you pay the hundred bucks right now because it seems HP will only ship it after Christmas for people who ordered it months ago.

As a conclusion, despite all those points, I'M VERY SATISFIED WITH MY LAPTOP AND I RECOMMEND IT. As a casual gamer I could barely ask more. For the price, everyone is agreeing that it is one of the best laptops currently on the market.

I personally like the fact you can see through the chrome somewhat, but this is coming from someone that would like a transparent desktop case (or even a transparent laptop).

    We can all dream though.

Well, I bought one of these and the hard drive failed overnight after 6 months. HP's after care support has been .... abyssmal. It's been in a repair shop for ONE MONTH and HP are refusing to issue a replacement. I will avoid this company in the future like the PLAGUE.

Was the happy user of an HP HDX16t for two years and two weeks. The tech desk at my local computer repair depot says today that my beautiful HDX16t will take either $400 or $600 to repair because there is a circuit interrupt between the incoming power port and the onboard power supply and/or motherboard.

Counting my daughter's other form factor HP lapper, this is the THIRD HP I know of with MAJOR power problems.

DO NOT PURCHASE HP UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!!!

    You have been warned!!!!
