Lets hope has battery life that can match the Envy 13 but maybe a dual core i5/i7(hopefully a quad core i7 or if possible a mobile quad core i5?), and i'd be even content with ATI 4330 gpu.
-
It really depends when soon is... there are two possibilities that I predict in terms of time of release - before 2010 or after.
If it is released before the end of the year, it will either have a quad core i7 (but if the Envy 15's cooling is barely able to keep up to it then there is a slim chance of this happening) or it will have an "older" (ie. C2D based) CULV CPU - neither possibility looks good.
Else, it is released after, then most likely it will have a dual core i5/i7 (there are no quad core i5s). This seems the most likely route to take (if I were in charge at HP).
I'd expect a lot better GPU than the HD 4330 (they could probably fit a HD 4830 in it just based on thermal design, but they probably won't so that sales of the Envy 15 aren't cannibalized), and since the Arrandale i5/i7s have integrated GPUs, the battery life won't suffer since it will have switchable graphics. I like. -
I doubt its a CULV cpu as the Envy 13 comes with the LV SL cpu, and the CULV would kind of be a step back(plus the DM3 uses the CULV cpu). So this could have the SP cpu, or hopefully something newer?

Hm, awesome! If it has a 4570 at minimum id be down for that.

Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
If it can house a mid/enthusiast class GPU, that'll be spectacular.
-
Now find a support page that talks about the Envy 17 that still sacrifices the internal ODD for a second 4830.
-
I am really not impressed by the Envy line. If their intent was to copy the look of a Mac Book pro they failed. It is poorly made, creaky, with a track pad that doesn't work. Plus, amazingly, it costs more than a Mac Book Pro which wipes the floor with it in terms of construction and functionality.
-
You want to design/build/sell something like this? Ensure the QC is top notch and make sure you don't raise to price too far ahead of your rivals (which Darwin already pointed out) ! -
Unless they lower the prices of the Envy line, this is a complete FAIL IMHO.
For less money, I'd rather buy a Sony Z and get more functionality and quality.
For the mac fans, they can buy a high-end MBP for less money. -
they should work on fixing the 15 before they spurt out another one. Either give me a real second hdd bay or give me my damn odd back.
-
-
Don't forget e2e screen and backlit keys
-
-
Who else has something similar at a much lower price? I don't think anyone yet. -
it is way beyond my reach to buy this one. if it would have priced close to $1700 i would have think about it.
-
I don't know why people complain about price. Companies intentionally up the cost, since majority of the people believe cost is proportional to how good it is (whether it is true or not). It is a premium line that is for those that can afford it. They could sell a lot more if they lowered it but then it would lose it's novelty. Just look at Dell's Adamo or Alienwares.
-
I hope it has an external optical drive, like its Envy brothers - I like the new trend of moving the optical drive out, it really is a needless waste of space on laptops.
-
The HP Envy line here in Norway features 1x hdd at 500gb, 1 4gb ram chip and a dvd or bluray drive.
And overpriced as hell, but still much cheaper that what Apple sells here.
(Apple really is overpriced in Norway.) -

I just uploaded a User Review by a fellow member.
The Envy 15 is not what most people say it is. It is FAR better...^^
As for this one, I am hoping to see at least a SP9600 paired with a 4570HD or even better a 4650HD (I can dream right?), or even a GT240/520M.
I got to play with both the E13 and E15 before I bought my E15. And there were some VAIOs there around the E13 (the Z5 and the SR5). They looked bulky and big and not as strong as the E13. Seriously, the 13 is a lot thinner and lighter (with no battery slice I tried it) and I liked it a lot.
The E15 is quite big I must say, but the performance is impressively high. Who else has a semi-ultra-portable with an i7?
The 14 seems like a range filler mostly...but lets see what HP does with this one.
EDIT": LOL!! This made me laugh. http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/11/04/hp.working.on.envy.14.notebook/ look at the [via. xxx] part. it says [via NotebookReview]! Congratulations NBR! You goy it first! -
Has there been an update on a potential release of the envy 14?

I really hope this happens, I was close to grabbing a Lenovo Y460 until I saw this.
-
I wonder if the screen resolution available on the 14" will max out at 1366x768, 1440x900 or 1920x1080... I'd guess 1440x900.
-
It will be 1600x900, 1440x900 doesn't exist anymore.
-
-
-
if its a x900 res and the same hardware as the 15, I'll return my 15 for the 14.

Keeping my eye out as well. Hopefully HP don't put their top-of-the-line RGB LED backlit screens on them! All that'll do is bring the price tag up! Dang HP Envy 13's screen is beautiful but it's a real shame that HP hasn't lowered the price on it.

HP Fansite says "On the consumer side of things, there have been sightings over the past week of a certain notebook melding together Envy with Touchsmart tm2 style, plus some sort of “3D” imprint and is rumored to boast the title “smallest powerful notebook”. More on that to come…"

Does anyone have more information? -
No more info at this point. I'd say wait and see!

hp was out of my list since the dv6500t era ... their cooling systems sucks to the core ... and it seems that it still havent change after years
things that have changed since than , they start to charge more for their laptops .. makes me disgusted -
The Envy and Pavilion lines are not the same design team (in theory). My Envy 15 keeps temps at reasonable levels, and I have an i7 inside. The i5 version is a lot cooler.

I'm in complete agreement with you when it comes to the DV series of laptops. Don't get me started on the DV4...it's almost as if HP designs them to fail.
I'm in complete and utter awe, how HP manages to have the HDD stay at 49-53C, while the CPU is at 35-40C. It just baffles me....I'm gonna stop now or else I'm going to keep slamming HP and their DV2500/DV4, and then get started on Nvidia and their solder point incompetence for the next hour or 9.
But the DM3 runs very cool, as does the Envy 15, with the i5. Chilly even. The Envy 15 with the i7, the temps aren't really that bad at all actually, cooler than the bloody DV series with a C2D, seen lot of temp reading post in the owners lounge. Now, they aren't chilly, but it's a 45watt CPU, man. The Envy 15 has dedicated cooling for the CPU and another for the GPU, it's really a sight to behold. Have never seen such a strong cooling system in a laptop.
As long as you stay away from the DV series, you're pretty much good to go. And I would personally avoid AMD across the board. If you get the DM3Z, you're going to get higher temperatures. If you get an i7 in the 15, you're going to get higher temperatures. You just have to expect this. But other than that, these machines are downright freezing.
The people complaining don't understand they have a 45watt CPU in a metal enclosure, and when you're pushing it, it's going to get a bit hot. But the actual internal temps are still very good, it's just that the case transfers some of that heat to the user...
I'm really hoping for an Envy 14. Give me an SSD, i5, switchable graphics, AND a high-res screen, and I'm all over it. Basically, the Sony CW that's at Best Buy, but toss the optical and make it look like the Envy 13/15. -
+1
Envy 13's actually the ideal size for me but a bit on the pricier side. My suspicion is the RGB LED is what makes it cost $300 more than it should. For a few hundred less, I'll take the Envy 14 with the i5 for a little over $1,000. It'll probably have a dedicated GPU which I don't need at the moment. The magnesium chassis, the aluminum undercasing, the solid unibody design, and relatively low weight are what get to me the most. -
Heh. -
lately been on the Macrumours quite a bit...researching...
The envy 14 made my decision a little harder...only time will tell I really want a review on the battery life and heat so I could make a better decision. -
Hmmm.. do they still have the nice Beats Audio stereo speakers?
-
yes.........
