HP is now part of the gaming notebook competition with the debut of its Omen notebook. The manufacturer has clearly spent a great deal of time refining its gaming hardware, because it looks like this laptop could be a serious match for the Razer Blade and similar machines.

It should be noted that "Omen" was a name of a gaming PC from VoodooPC, which HP purchased in 2006 (albeit the original Omen was a desktop, not a laptop). That, combined with the fact that the HP Omen bears a bit of a visual resemblance to the Voodoo Envy 133 high-performance-and-thin laptop from 2008, makes me think that HP may be restarting attempts to make VoodooPC a viable HP sub-brand the way that Alienware is a Dell sub-brand.

    Sounds ominous.

On a more serious note, it looks like the Lenovo Y50 has a comparably spec'd, sized and priced competitor now with a more suitable resolution. If only HP's quality control didn't totally suck.
