The thing that confuses me is why they have a option for different 5650's on there configure page, one for Quad core and one for Dual core cpu's.
    They using two different cards?

They say it in the description: the one for Arrandale has switchable graphics, the one for Clarksfield does not.

I would like to see a review of this. It's one of the very few machines from the bigger manufactures that strikes me as both exciting and worth the price.

HP has discontinued the 13" at 3.7 lbs. for this 14" at 5.25 lbs?
    Abandoning the MacBookPro 13" class.

I really wish this thing were lighter. It's just a tad too heavy for this size laptop these days -- for my taste, anyway.

if i were to take out the optical drive, how much weight would that save?

also, does this thing have that slim, flat battery the envy 13 and 15 had?

that's because the quad core (i7) doesn't have a internal gpu in the cpu, while the i5 series cpus do. This is why they require differentent graphics cards (one is switchable while the other isn't

any reviews of the envy 14 out there yet?

Though don't you think that this option could be handled automatically by HP?

I guess the way their manufacturing line works must rely on the way the customization works on the website such that it can't be automatic...

It is handled automatically by HP -- if you try to combine a processor and a GPU that don't go together, it will complain and probably won't let you order. I think the reason they make you explicitly choose is that they want people to know that Arrandale comes with switchable graphics.

^^^ Yea, i've read the i7 cpu heats things up, so most likely that's the cause. About the beats thing I can't help you there as i'm still waiting for my Envy to clear shipping. :( Waiting Sucks!

Khasimzafar, this post happened back in July.
I'd ask your questions in the HP forum for a better response.

Not sure about your specific question, but for what its worth those i7s run naturally very hot, one of the main drawbacks for that generation of chips. Search Google for "Realtemp" program, it will let you know what temps your cores are running at, those chips do have a high temp threshold.
