Although the last 11.6-inch HP Pavilion dm1 was released in January, HP is updating the notebook again and releasing it before the end of the year. The updated, next generation HP Pavilion dm1 will sport a new design, Beats Audio software and a new feature of the HP Premier Experience, and the upcoming AMD E-450 dual-core processor at 1.65GHz.

Now...if they could just start putting SSD's in the base models, then we could finally do away with HDD's!
-
I just got the previous DM1, don't think I should sell it for this one. Don't like the new design and the base specs don't see much different.
-
I have on too and really like it, is it a huge upgrade ? No... But I do like the new look and the E-450 should give it a nice little boost in performance. If only it had a backlit keyboard....sigh... anyway might give the "old" DM1 to my girl and get me this newer model....now if HP could only cram an A series QUAD core llano in one( hey I could dream..lol)

The manufacturers I've spoken with (including HP) say that most people who buy netbooks and better equipped netbook alternatives mainly buy (or decide NOT to buy) based on price.
If you go to buy a $400 netbook and then click on a 256GB SSD option on the HP website and the price jumps to $800 you will probably decide NOT to buy that netbook.
Most people who really want a SSD can buy their own and add it later ... which is pretty easy thanks to the tool-free access panel on the bottom of the dm1. -
IMO, the more interesting aspect of this refresh is the I3 sandybridge option (which means HD3000 graphics as well). HP refreshes the Pavilion dm1 with a new design, optional Intel ULV Core i3 CPU (video) -- Engadget If the price doesn't jump too far, this will be the least expensive "ultrabook" in sheeps clothing. It will have the same specs as the Asus XU21, etc and will probably be much less expensive because HP decided not to put these parts into an expensive magnesium MBA-Like chassis. That will probably turn out to be a great decision. This is what Acer should have done with its 1830T. As much as I like the sleek, metal Ultrabook designs, buyers need a low cost option in a 11.6" or 13.3" notebook sporting an I3 ULV CPU and HD3000 graphics. It is a near perfect combination for a small ultralight travel unit.

I like the redesign a lot, personally. The performance increase isn't really going to be much, though.

The touchpad looks to be the same textured one that is used on the G-series notebooks, which is much better imo. One of my biggest "problem" with the current dv/dm lines is the touchpad is almost impossible to use with any moisture in the air. The G4 that I played around with for a while felt much better.

I personally wish HP brought back the touchpads from the old tx2000/tx2500 and the GIANT Pavilion HDX:

I am so utterly torn. would love to hear the debate on whether or not its worth paying roughly $400 for the older e-350 AMD series or to wait for this refresh and possibly pay the extra $200 for the i3 refresh (altho i really dont need that external optical drive).

I'm happy to see the change to the touchpad. One of the biggest factors in my decision to go Lenovo x120e vs HP was the HP's click pad. I would still like to see separate page up and down, home and end buttons. The Lenovo has a very good keyboard but the HP's also felt good when I tried it.
I would also mention that if you don't need the power, Target was selling the Acer 722 with the C-50 CPU, 2gb ram and the same 11.6" 1366x756 screen for around $200 about a month back. The new non-sale price is still an attractive $270. For people like me who want to use the computer as just a powerful netbook the Acer looks to be an attractive option for a good bit less money. Had it been out when I got my Lenovo I would be an Acer owner instead.
(No, I don't work for Target or Acer). -
please, someone, stick an A8-3500M in a small chassis, please. -
Is it too much to ask for an eSATA/USB combo port and one USB 3.0 port in this model refresh? I hold off purchase of the current dm1 because I want eSATA. Now, HP did everything right in this refresh, except the addition of eSATA and USB 3.0.
