HP wasted little time rolling out new products at CES 2010, today announcing the new TouchSmart tm2 tablet/notebook combo, and three new Mini netbooks.

Both a Tablet and a Notebook
HP touts the TouchSmart tm2 as the first convertible notebook PC featuring multitouch technology aimed specifically at a consumer audience. Users can are free to select their own personal configuration, be it a traditional laptop with keyboard highlighted by a touch-enabled display, or as a tablet, using either a digital pen or multiple finger gestures.

    [IMG] [IMG]

Under the hood, the TouchSmart tm2 features Intel Core 2 Duo processors and a six-cell battery offering up to nine hours of juice. HP also claims the tm2 has an “advanced thermal design to help keep the PC cool.”

A bevy of touch applications come preloaded, including photo-editing software, tools for organizing and managing media, and a touch-enabled Netflix app.

Other specs include Intel Atom N450 processor, mobile broadband connectivity, and either a four- or six-cell battery, that latter of which provides up to 10 hours of power.

HP is offering a scaled down version of the Mini 5102 for students, which also includes document management and portfolio creation software.

    PC Companions
At 2.69 pounds and less than an inch thin, the HP Mini 210 is designed as a PC companion for travelers, while the Mini 2102 is its slightly larger and more loaded brother. Other specs and features for both the Mini 210 and Mini 2102 include:

So what Core 2 Duo cpu is the TM2 using? And when you say the difference between 210 and the 2102 is size, does that mean screen size or something else? What other difference would there also be?

The Mini 5100 series looked good from the first time I saw it. Very clean and sleek. A bigger screen/slimmer bezel would make it look even better.

LOL! It better be true. Anybody who has owned a previous generation of the tx series will know how 'cool' HP's advanced thermal design helps the system run.

Hopefully with this switch to the Intel processor we'll finally see an HP consumer tablet that runs cool.

What's even more interesting that there is a mention of discrete ATI graphics and SU9600 chip by default. that sounds like a great tablet, especially if they went to Wacom. Here is hoping for ATI 4570 (or 5470).

Are there going to be Intel SL processor options? like the SL9400/SL9600?

Will a SU7300 with 4500HD be enough to power this kinda tablet?

Finally! An Intel-powered tablet PC from HP! Hopefully, it runs much cooler and lasts longer on battery than the previous tx machines.

As a side note, I wonder why HP decided to write out "Hewlett Packard" on the screen bezel... they usually advertise only as HP.

Proof pls. Don't you usually do one to two word posts with both hyperlinked? :)

Oh and any chance of a tm2 review, NBR? That looks ridiculously good, + fulfills all of my criteria.

I too really like this HP tm2 announcement. I wonder when the Thinkpad X210 Tablet will be announced, and how it will compare?

I disagree here. It is not AMD's fault, it is HP's most of the time (read always), those poor cooling designs are a shame, and all the Pavilions I have used, tested, tried, handled; get hot, soit Pentium, soit C2D, soit AMD Turion or Athlon.

I like the looks of the tm2. So far it fits my criteria for a tablet. Hopefully it will continue to do so.

I wonder how well it will perform battery life wise, though....

Okay so I have a question. Do Tablet PC's need a dedicated graphics card to run smoothly? (not talking about playing games or anything like that)

No, in fact no tablets I've seen so far have dedicated graphics, as they're usually have small 12" form factors. Integrated graphics is just fine for pretty much all tasks except heavy rendering or gaming.

What are the chances that the HP TouchSmart tm2 will offer the choice of an SSD instead of a mechanical HDD??

Based on other and previous HP models, not likely perhaps :(

Does it use 2.5" or 1.8" drive formfactor? Easy to upgrade yourself?
