HP today announced the latest additions to its consumer and business notebook lines with 11 new models utilizing AMD’s latest VISION Technology--the AMD "Llano" A-series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs). HP and AMD claim these new processors that combine a traditional CPU and a graphics processor (GPU) in a single chip provide exceptional performance at an affordable price.

Battery life should be good -- from all the Llano reviews, it's on par with Sandy Bridge. On the other hand, CPU performance is downright pathetic.

Might step on some Zacate toes, but I read the AMD models of the HP Probook line just got upgrade to Llano and I think the Probook line either includes a 12.5in or a 13in machine(not sure if was an intel or amd based).

yeah nothing under 13 inches... Isnt that the purpose of llano? to bring smaller laptops higher performance? Apparently HP is only going to be including it in the 14 and up segment... SUCKS. :(

AMD provides "discrete-level" graphics but the CPU chokes under pressure. Intel provides crappy integrated graphics with more than you need CPU.

    You just can't win!

Not with a single chip, no. This is simply a matter of die space: to get those "discreet-level" graphics, AMD had to dedicated half the chip to the GPU. If you want a good CPU and a good GPU, your best bet is to get a Sandy Bridge laptop with switchable graphics.

Not for Internet and Windows Aero, AMD Llano is still better than Intel with Switchable Graphics.

With a Intel/NVIDIA machine, you're most likely to configure Optimus so that the NVIDIA GPU is not used for Aero and Web Browsers cause it makes sense it you're going to unplug the laptop and want better battery life.

But with Llano the APU will take care of both Aero and Web Browsers acceleration (Flash, YouTube) without the need to worry about battery life, however the CPU performance on Llano is bit disappointing but should be noticed with everyday tasks.

All in all Llano is better overall and should satisfy the all average user's but for more intensive CPU task's and gaming the rely heavily on CPU power Intel is better.

The G6 with Llano has already hit Walmart. The one I saw was an A4 model.

excuse the double posting, but the G4-1117dx seems to be catching fire [I mean, fanwise] and I'm just wondering if any other seller has the model or similar 14/13 with A-Series ?? have only seen at Best Buy. Googling turns up zilch.

I saw the remark about wallyworld having a G6 model... guess I need to check for others.

this is a pretty serious performer for such cheap budget... raising the bar

I think you might be right. I was eyeballing that and considering a screen swap.

It's probably cheaper and more convenient to just configure one with 1080p on the HP website and buy it the next time a good coupon rolls around

I was almost tempted to buy the Best Buy one and buy my own screen too. Except it has the 6-cell battery and I want the 9-cell. However it seems with K10stat you can easily get 5+ hours on a standard 6-cell. But it was $599 before, now it's $699 and doesn't make as much sense.
