    HP unveiled a slew of new business notebook in Shanghai China today. The new notebooks include the HP Compaq 2510p, HP Compaq 6510b, HP Compaq 6710b, HP Compaq 6910p, HP Compaq 8510 series and HP Compaq 8710 series. Is it just me, or do all of the notebooks look the same? I just scrolled down, and I saw essentially the same thing like 6 times....Not like they put any creativity in the design or anything. At least the tablet looks nice, and very different from the rest of them.

    I'm liking the specs on the 8510p and the 6910p. The 6910 is very light for a 14" notebook, its about the same weight as the 12" Lenovo V100....

    These are business notebooks. Practicality and functionality take priority over elegance I suppose.

    All of these HP notebooks look great! I think I might be going back to HP now... I'm sorry I left :eek:

    i don't think 800 mhz memory is available in a decent quantity, so while it does support 800 mhz (i'm pretty sure, but not 100%....we'll find out tomorrow, i suppose), you probably won't see it in notebooks for a bit....

    but it is disappointing that nothing seems to mention nand/robson technology.

    Yes, I agree, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they are working on compatibility issues with Vista :)

    Anyone know much about the new NVidia Quadro 1600M 512MB?!? This is just speculation, but will the 1600M be identical to the 2500M with lower clock speeds, or pipelines disabled, and less power consumption?

    1500M = 7900GS
    1600M = ?
    2500M = 7900GTX
    3500M = 7950GTX

    Doesn't seem to fit the puzzle very well since there is really no gap to be filled.

    Your title is "HP Announces Intel Santa Rosa Based Business Notebooks" but when I checked hp.com, the only ones that are shipping now is the HP Compaq 6715b and HP Compaq 6515b, which are AMD based notebooks!

    "HP Compaq 6910p Notebook PC starts at $1,349 and is currently shipping.
    HP Compaq 6710 Notebook PC series starts at $1,049 and is currently shipping.
    HP Compaq 6510b Notebook PC starts at $999 and is currently shipping."

    I checked and they are not available!

    I wonder what kind of performance boost the x2600 will have over the x1600.....

    btw, its time to update the database ;). I knew 8510p/w can't support a x1900. A GPU like that would burn a hole in the 15" lappy.

    Wow, I'm glad I waited instead of buying the nc2400. The 2510p would have been enough with the new chipset, but LED backlights and a trackpad just sweeten the deal, and a lot!

    As for looks, I like black much more than these shiny silver pieces of plastic bling people call laptops nowadays. Give me a solid thermal design and ruggedness anyday, the understatement is a bonus.

    Uff, mid-July shipping for 8510p? It's gonna be August when they'll be available in Central Europe :(

    Anyway, I wonder how much will cost the model with Blu-Ray and how ergonomic will be the keyboard - the one shipped with nc8430 was one of the best I've ever had...

    They seem to have screwed keyboard layout (probably due the widescreen idiocy) so there is no longer traditional Home/End etc. keys posiition. Why ... WHY ... :-/

    I wouldn't say it is the widescreen that causes this layout (previous widescreen 8xxx models had the "good" layout) and IMHO, widescreen is better (after having 4:3 1400x1050 for a long time). I'll try to ask HP laptop product manager if he knows the cause...

    Are you sure they are LED display? The notebooks seem kind of cheap with LED display.

    I'm disappointed the ultraportable laptops doesn't come with DVI-out or HDMI and or expresscard slots.

    why do you need a 64-bit OS? Business users aren't even using Vista yet on end user machines, let alone 64-bit Windows.

    These are business laptops... and typically the external monitor ports will be used to connect to VGA projectors, while users use DVI at their desk with a docking station. And they have a bunch of PCMCIA hardware (network cards).

    After most of the leases (typically 3 yrs) are up on PCMCIA/VGA-only hardware, then you'll see a push for ExpressCard and DVI on business notebooks.

    If it's anything like on the desktop, the 8600M (or workstation derivative) will get beat by the 7900GS in DX9. On the other hand, it does have DX10 support and awesome HD decoding performance.

    There are DVI-VGA and Expresscard to PCMCIA adapters out there. I think that would have been a better move. I really want to buy the HP 2510P, but I might wait due to the lack of expresscard support.

    Called HP in the UK about the 8510p and was told it will be available sometime in June - wish it was sooner, but could be worse :)

    Wouldn't give me any info on whether or not it would include robson though :(

    They call them eraserheads... because long ago the old styles *literally* looked like the eraserhead of a #2 pencil.

    Despite having just bought a T60 literally only 3 months ago, I kind of want the 8510p or the 8510w. The new T61s I dont particularly like (the screen is shifted to the right, for god sakes! Its not balanced!), despite it being quieter and cooler. The 8510p/w to me is like the evolution of the T60 in maintaining a business class design while maintaining a good image.

    I do personally believe the DuraKey / DuraFinish is total BS though. Based upon the descriptions of both they sound exactly the same. But eh, what do I know. I do want to see this NightLight feature though - I wonder if they are copying IBM and just putting an LED light at the top of the LCD frame or going MacBook style with lighting under the keyboard via fiber optics (looks so nice ;) ).

    All HP needs to do now other than having the LED backlit displays (i only saw it mentioned on the 2510/2710s?) is doing the whole 4965ABGN thing with MIMO, aka, 3 antennas ;)... that would be the ultimate business laptop for me, if the right price is shown ;)

    Well, that's it, 8510p it is. I hope they offer the WUXGA screen without having to move up to the workstation model. My old HP has spoiled me and I've just gotten so used to 1920X1200... :eek:

    The thought of having a blu-ray drive and an HDMI out makes me all warm inside, and I'm sure the Radeon X2600M will be enough for me. From what I've read, early looks at the R600 leave it trailing behind nVidia's DX10 chips in all out FPS gaming, but the 2600 series looks to be a pretty decent card (certainly not a 'bottom of the barrel' chip by any means).

    I've loved my ZT3000 for 3 years now. I optioned with everything HP had to offer back in the day -1.7GHz Pentium M, 512MB Ram, Bluetooth, 64MB Radeon 9200 (woot!). Yea, I'm definitely ready to upgrade.

    Why does the 2510P have a digitizer on the screen? I thought a digitizer is only needed for touch screens and yet that appears to be just another normal LCD screen.

    Bah, looks like the WUXGA screen will only be offered on the workstations in regards to the 8510 and 8710. I enjoy the high-res, and if you're going to offer a BR player, why not take full advantage of it?

    Do you know if the HP Compaq 8510 series and HP Compaq 8710 series will also have embedded Rev. A cards? Where did you find the information on the the HP
    tablets having Rev. A. I called HP and devoured their website but was unable to find out if the new laptops would still have Rev. 0. Thanks for your review. Any
    insight would be appreciated. I'm looking to buy a 15.4 in. laptop with embedded Rev. A.

    They mention it in the press kit released back on May 9th...
    http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press_kits/2007/mobilitysummit/na_328_businessnotebooks.pdf (third paragraph from the top)

    They only specifically mention the ultra-light models. I would expect them to use the same rev. across their updated product range. But they dont specifically mention it anywhere in the press release.
