HP is going to be releasing another new special edition design for their Pavilion dv6700 series called "Thrive". The special design will initially just be available in Best Buy and should start selling the end of this month.

Below are some pictures of this Pavilion dv6700t special edition Thrive laptop:

As usual, pictures don't do this notebook justice, it looks much prettier in person. The copper coloring and hues are really great and the inlaid vine/sprout that runs across the notebook lid and around the keyboard chassis look great. HP just keeps on cranking out the great design.

There's still no real change with the actual design and ergonomics of the body, we'd hope to see something new from HP on that front in the next few months. But the shape design of the dv6000 series still looks good after more than a year in service, so if it isn't broken no real reason to fix it we say.

I saw it on sale last week at best buy. It looks so good in person. Almost makes me what to return my vostro I just ordered.

Its already at Best Buy. It looks pretty interesting, but what really surprised me was the fact that it included dedicated graphics. Its one of the few at BB that doesn't have an IGP.

Still not my cup of tea, but at least it is much more appealing (to me) than the "Asian Odyssey" dv2800t.

Review's the same as the dv6700t or dv6500t. Just substitute a red lid.

I agree, this is a good looking notebook. Gotta give HP credit for the shiny paint job.

I wonder if this is going to replace the mac white "special" edition HP notebook.

It's kinda weird that this is for Best Buy only, Circuit City and other retailers are going to feel like they've been left out.

Best Buy collaborates with HP to make it an exclusive.

They had exclusitivity on the Verve and the white dv6000s until HP took it to CTO as well.

And for the numerous comments on the dated design of the HP chassis, both here and in the dv2800 thread, are there really any other better looking mainstream notebooks out there? Yea, I didn't think so either.

I think HP is overdoing this "special edition" thing. They already have a few out and they dont add anything except the outer design colors.

Awesome... a new paint job!

HP's laptops are becoming the Ford Mustang of computers. How many limited edition spinoffs can we make from the same product. At least Ford engineers give you a little something extra when you pick up a Mach 1 or Bullitt.

That's a matter of personal opinion. Seems there are quite a few people on the forums that aren't interested in carrying around a machine that is comprised of 97% high gloss surfaces.

"But wait Matt, your G1 has lots of glossy surfaces as well!"

That's true. And after half a year, it also still has damn impressive horsepower under the hood. I hate its appearance because it's a fingerprint magnet, but it's also black and very impressive hardware wise.

In this man's opinion, I'd rather lug around a Thinkpad than an HP that resembles an oversized makeup compact.

I like the looks of this laptop. I'm no expert, but the specs on this machine look pretty pretty good to me and the design is sharp. It's on the top of my list.

The difference is that HPs aren't total pieces of crap. Mustangs....are. Seriously, there are a lot of other cars I'd rather have for 25 grand.

And it seems like a majority of people who buy computers are, as evidenced by HP's growing lead in the notebook market.
