Today during the press launch of Google's Chrome OS, they released the first notebook that will be available with the new operating system. The Google CR-48 will offer a down-to-basics design without the superfluous ?stuff' that you might find on a regular notebook; cap-lock buttons, old fashion spinning media, function keys, and excessive heat output.

Wow interesting news. So, Google will also be the laptop brand? I like the screen size.

Google is not going into the hardware business and this is just a large scale hardware trial. Google is really just pushing a cloud oriented operating system, not the hardware itself.

I honestly can't even guess what this thing would go for? This is really just a "thin client," so if it was sold in high volumes, it should be cheaper than a netbook. Looking at the hardware, I'm thinking it's worth less than $200. However, I've never seen a reasonable priced thin client before, since most go to large enterprises.

Anyway, I'm not all that excited so far by the looks of this thing. Wow, what poor connectivity! I guess that's the entire point - force people to work in the cloud. Ho-hum. Boring. Common, Google, what's the next big idea?

Still, the Google name has some magic and I predict it's only a matter of time before they start appearing on eBay for obscene prices!

Google isn't getting in the hardware business, just putting out hardware for evaluation to generate some buzz about Chrome OS.

Did you get any confirmation when you submitted your application? It didn't even say anything that would indicated my app was submitted when I did it.

You should have gotten a plain screen with the Chrome logo thanking you for submitting your app and telling you that you will be further notified if you are selected, if I remember correctly.

Correct. However, no further notification was given unless you consider UPS delivering a package notification.

If you are referring to my post then I meant more about your CR-48, not more CR-48s.
