While I won't call these budget laptops "impressive" I will say the price and will make them reasonably appealing.

I might have been tempted to buy the Gateway LT41P for myself as a disposable travel laptop if it had a USB 3.0 port and support for USB 3.0 data transfer speeds and faster charging of USB devices. As it stands now (with only USB 2.0 ports) I'd only consider the LT41P as a cheap touchscreen laptop for my kids.

I'd agree with you Jerry that they are reasonably appealing. If anything, they offer a touch-enabled display over competitors for around the same price.

I think the "sweet spot" for value in the notebook computer world is the $600-700 refurbished previous-gen business notebook from the Dell/Lenovo outlets. They may end up costing you twice as much as one of these budget notebooks, but the odds are they'll last twice as long and be much more reliable along the way. The business notebooks usually come with a three-year warranty to boot.

I'd rather spend extra money on a faster better brand laptop with a higher resolution (1080p) IPS touch panel display if I'm going to spend money on a Windows 8.1 touch screen laptop.

Personally I'm waiting till fall 2014 for Cherry Trail to come out and grab a nice Windows 8.1 tablet convertible.
