It seems to be an upgraded version of the Gateway P-7811FX. I have noticed two differences thus far:

    1) The HDD is 320GB versus 200GB
    2) The NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS has 1024MB of VRAM versus than 512MB

The price of the Gateway P-7801u is listed as $1699.99, which is definitely heftier than that of the Best Buy's Gateway P-7811, but it is still very good value for money.

I also noticed another upgrade and it is to RAM. The 4GB of DDR3 is clocked at 1066MHz.

Hmm. Nice find. It looks as if they made a couple minor changes and upped the price a few hundred. Gateway is so weird sometimes.

Ah, I thought it came with 800MHz RAM. I stand corrected.

I seek to buy a new gaming notebook, so I must say I find this very tempting, although it is near the higher end of my budget. Do you guys think there will be further discounts or models with similar capabilities/prices in the pre-holiday season?

Again Red_Dragon, THE 9800GS IS NOT UP TO 9800GTS/GT STANDARD! its too weak to be classified as a 9800, should be a 9700GTX or something. 8300 at 1366*720 on 3dmark06 just doesnt cut it.

Another option for this price range is the soon-to-be-sold-out Sager NP5793, available from many Sager resellers in the U.S. listed in the Clevo Guide.

Sager NP5793 specs for $1,400 (all standard):
    -17" WSXGA+ display
    -Core 2 Duo T8100 2.1GHz
    -Nvidia 9800M-GTS 512MB
    -4GB RAM
    -320GB 7200RPM hard drive
    -Blu-ray reader
    -Intel 5100AGN + Bluetooth

Better build quality and far superior service versus the Gateway. The Gateway is by no means a bad machine, but for $1,400+ I'd go with a Sager. The P7811FX is the best value in its price range (edit: when it's on sale for $1,250, or when the Sager is sold out ;)).

Yea, I tend to agree with Chaz on this. That NP5790 is a nice machine for the money. Seems as if Gateway really helped in lowering the exorbitant pricing of the competition.

Yes, I think I am going to go for the Sager. I will call some resellers on Monday, as soon as they are back to their working week. Sager is a really good deal now that the P-7811FX is only available as an Outlet item and not on $1250 sale.
