I'm pretty sure that the VGA port should be able to output a 1080p resolution depending on monitors.

meh.. my sharp 52" only supports up to 1600x1200 resolution for VGA x.x wish this had HDMI instead of VGA..

How does the ATI card in this compare to the intel 4500hd card? How does the CPU in this compare to the single core amd neo? -
-
Both are manufactured by the same company and probably use the same 200 nit display. Acer 751 is a lot lighter and has better battery life.
Personally I would run XP on any of these netbooks.

anyways.. a new color is released, red: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9396824&type=product&id=1218099043959 -
Here in the Netherlands it was quoted as 1.3kg for the Acer, 1.6 for the Gateway. -
from Bestbuy.com Product Weight 3 lbs.

from Gateway.com Weight 3.04 lbs. (1.38 kg) system unit only / 3.93 lbs. (1.78 kg.) box

The only advantage of the GMA500 in the Aspire One 751 is that it plays back certain videos well - but it won't play back Flash videos or Hulu any better, and I'm pretty sure the Gateway can play 720p with hardware acceleration as well - I know that 720p videos are a slideshow on my NC10 with GMA950 - I tried out a benchmark 720p video downloaded from Youtube in MP4 format and it was bad.
Really, the competition is between the 1.6 Ghz Atom and the 1.2 Ghz Athlon64, not the 1.2 Ghz Atom. -
So is this AMD cpu suppose to compare to the CLUV cpu or atom? Or the CLUV going against AMD Neo line? -
I do see one big benefit of the Athlon coming to this market: Intel is already allowing N280 in 11.6" 1366*768 netbooks. -

Now that I've had the Gateway for a couple of days, I am really pleased - I don't think I could go back to a netbook with a smaller screen and keyboard. I'm not a power user and it seems to do all I want and is really cool in the bargain.
One issue - I'm having trouble connecting and staying connected to my home network - it's much less able to get the signal than my older compaq presario in the same locations. I do get connected in certain areas, though. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the Gateway having G wireless and my router is an Linksys N model. Any ideas?
thanks -
or is it your problem? or maybe the OS that you might not have used before? xD
i never had any problem connecting to my wifi from my acer which has the same wifi card as the gateway. -
I just called the Geeks at Best Buy where I bought the Gateway, and they said it could just be that the wireless card in the netbook may not be as good as what is in my Compaq. They suggested getting a USB wireless N adaptor as the most practical solution. That's another expense, though, and the reviews of those USB adaptors vary all over the place.
-
i would just go buy another wifi card mini pci-e on eBay instead of buying a USB from best buy for overprice.
-
-
there are like 2 screws at the bottom of your netbook.
should be similar to like my acer..
which should have a card like this in one of the access panel
go to ebay or somewhere and look for "mini pci-e" card in networking section -
Look in your wireless adapter settings and see if you can boost the transmit power, typically that's available in the device settings. -
-
the driver would most likely be atheros, same pci-e card as the acer as far as i know.
-
Actually, they want me to buy a $90 adapter from them, but I take your point!

I'm looking for a X2 processor now. Might try a cheapo off of EBAY. Maybe the BIOS and chipset will recognize it. Wish there was info on this CPU so I can compare the wattage. Right now I have mine on 0.750v at 1.2ghz, not sure how much wattage it's using. -
So this thing can't even handle YouTube/Hulu? I am in the market for a laptop and am researching very carefully. This one I think I'll be getting.
I'd be playing a HD file in 720p, not flash. Apparently that runs well on this. Going to check it out at Best Buy after work tomorrow. -
hahaha.
Best of luck with your lunatic endeavors! -
What's so funny? Unrealistic, undoable, stupid? What's up with the processor? You've got all the details about this computer?
Or are you trying to be funny because of the "HAX?" A lot of AMD models are labeled that way. -
Yeah, I found the HAX in the code funny.
-
-
Why should one get this over the HP DV2 other than battery life?
-
-
And even so, better hope the cooling system can handle that little pup.
-
If I can underclock and undervolt a mobile dual core to 1.0ghz I'd be happy. It looks like the L110 is 13 watts so it will be a challenge (if one at all). I'd like to be cheap and light (and a little more power). I've had and used other ultra-portable and this one I like, especially the screen. -
So the L110 has a TDP of 13 watts, what about the CPU you want to replace it with?
-
heh.. have fun hacking the netbook.. i don't see the BIOS being able to undervolt it or something x.x I'll be guessing you'll replace it with amd athlon 64 x2? or turion?
-
-
i am not sure about amd cpu, well i'm not sure about notebook cpus.. i only keep track of desktop cpu since i don't bother upgrading netbooks/notebooks
-
yeah same here, that why i asked. Also I know the 64 X2 at least on desktops are either socket 939 or AM2, is that the same for laptops? If so I know on my 939 machine(64 x2 cpu) the cooling unit was kind of larger since it produced a good amount of heat.
-
maybe looking at amd's website might help/ lol

check notebookcheck.net they may have that info.

gateway may have some competition http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/06/medion-rolls-out-amd-based-akoya-mini-e1312-netbook/1#c19925668
-
thanks for posting. I think Gateway is for US, while Medion is for Europe only.
But the Gateway is sold in Europe under the Packard Bell brand name. So it's Packard Bell that got competition -
The more 11 inch notebooks the better. I hope others follow suit. Really wish someone would put out an 11 inch notebook with nvidia 9400 and a real processor under 1000.00.

I went to best buy today to play with it. I really liked it. Keyboard is comfortable, great screen, decent size. Battery makes the thing a bit heavy for its size, but still loads lighter than anything of comparable price and power.
I wonder if you can manually adjust the fan speed. That might help the thing keep up with the 25W processor. The big leap though will be if the motherboard recognizes and properly clocks the processor. -
