Gateway Intros its First 11.6" Netbook
Gateway today introduced its new LT1300 netbook featuring an 11.6-inch display with LED backlighting and a high 1366x768 resolution. The LT1300 is interestingly powered by an AMD Athlon 64 L110 processor, running at 1.2GHz with a 512kb L2 cache. An ATI Radeon X1270 takes care of the graphics chores. A six-cell battery, 250GB hard drive, and 2GB of DDR2 RAM round out the list. Unlike regular netbooks, the LT1300 runs Windows Vista Home Basic. It measures 11.3" (W) x 8" (D) x 1.03" (H) and has a starting weight of 3.14 pounds.
The LT1300 is available now for $399.99.

Now the question is, how does the Athlon 64 L110 compare to the Atom? At least the Radeon X1270 will blow the doors off the GMA500/950. Nice resolution and screen size.
-
Finally, something new! I'd be interested in this one.
-
Smart system design. Congrats to Gateway for going 11', full size keyboard I assume, a large drive, good 6-cell battery, and a newer Windows OS. This is the way of the future -- perhaps from a user perspective the biggest change will be the full size keyboard. I just cannot type effectively on any netbook due to the crammed design. Looking forward to a review.

^^^^Good 6 cell? This thing is rumored to get only 3-4 hours of battery life.
-
This thing looks pretty good...
-
Not bad for there first netbook, just wonder how it's gonna perform compared to your standard netbook with ATOM CPU but the ATI RADEON X is a big plus.

You can run starcraft on high at least thats a start
This looks great i swear every gateway notebook looks awesome now -

on a side nore something i want to add that price is too good to be true that would have to be for a "base model"
-
i wonder when will Best Buy have it.. I went to one of my local Best Buy and they had the new Gateway NV 15.6" notebook series already lol which was just announced today..

lol is this a reaplcement for the gateway MD? Or jsut al alternative choice? Looks good though just as i said a few psots up(all over again)
-
Someone do a review to test the HD capabilities of this thing (specifically YouTube and Hulu capability) and the battery life! Might make me want to sell my HP 2140.
-
I want one of these soooo bad. I saw it in BB the other day and couldnt help but to play with it. I think I got carried away, b/c the sales associate asked how would I like to pay for it, cash, check, or charge? lol
Im going to get one!!

Looks like this one

Gateway is owned by Acer...
It is basically the same, besides the chipset and cpu basically.. -
This the most interesting netbook to come out yet. The only downside is the ~4 hr battery life. Can't wait to see some reviews for this puppy.
-
-
I swear, I have not heard anything about a Gateway netbook.
Must be very popular
Never even seen it mentioned ever in reviews, Oh well this at least looks promissing -
-
My local Best Buy have the LT3103u instock, a black gateway netbook
I wanted to get it.. but no clue on the performance, there was no display, they only have 2 of them in stock. -
allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
It looks sharp and it's priced right at $399...especially considering the 1366x768 display!
That being said, I can't help but be skeptical about its performance. Will the AMD Athlon L110 generate as much heat as other AMD processors? The Neo processor in the HP dv2 generates way too much heat, according to users. And it has horrible battery life, too.
It would be great if they figured out a way to effectively keep temps down on this new Gateway! But I'm not gonna hold my breath... -
-
allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
It would be very interesting to see how much battery life improves and how much lower the temps run with the MV-40 & ATI X1250 integrated graphics.
The L335 (the lesser of the two dual-core options) is only available with the ATI X1250 paired with Vista Basic....To get Vista Home Premium, the ATI 3410 is required.....wonder how Win7 will do on the dv2? -

AMD hasn't added the L110 to their list of notebook processors yet. I'm curious about the TDP compared to the MV-40's 15W TDP! Is the L110 cooler and more efficient, or the opposite?

Looks impressive. I'd like to see some benchmarks to see if the Atom of the eee is really "better" according to the review.

-
awesome
so i'm guessing that should be better than the acer now? x.x -

did AMD really want to make a netbook? I think the answer was no? x.x
-
any word on expected battery life?
and will youtube/Hulu HD actually work? -
-
Either way, it's still seems to be getting less battery life than most netbooks. It's still usable though, and I'd appreciate the extra punch. -
You can buy this from Best Buy online now

Anybody know how it compares to a HP Dv2 in performance?
Sorry not to familiar with AMD/ATI CPU's and GPU's -
So here's a question for the class. I value power much more than battery life. Since this uses a RS690E chipset, would it be possible to take, say a Turion X2 bought off of ebay, open this baby up, and put it in?
I know the battery life would be cut in half or more, and it would void the warranty, but is it doable? Could the power supply and cooling handle this sort of thing? Will the motherboard recognize the processor or do you need some sort of software or hardware clock setting thing?
If possible, for a total of maybe $450, you'd have a perfectly usable, fully functional ultraportable, without the cripled usage you get with these single core low power processors. If battery life goes down to like 2 1/2 hours, or even less, I could live with that. -
I'll say no to this question, but I can't be sure. Most netbook CPU is soldered on the motherboard meaning most likely unchangeable.

Hm, havent heard of any Netbook where the CPU can be changed, sorry

I tried the Gateway yesterday at BEstBuy and compared it to all the other Netbooks they had on display. The Gateway was noticeably peppier than the other Netbooks, plus it has VISTA on it which is a huge plus for me. I was really there to compare the Asus eee 1005HAB to the Gateway, and the Gateway easily won with what I saw yesterday. So I'll be picking up the Gateway later this week or next week at the latest.
-
Gateway is the winner in performance so far out of all netbooks but the battery life isn't so good. -
Of coure longer battery life is always better but I also want something that is light with a larger screen and with Vista so the Gateway fits the bill. -

The problem is Intel's anti-competitive policies - netbook manufacturers can't buy an N270/N280 for a machine bigger than 10" - that's why all the 12" machines, even the first one (Dell Mini 12) came with processors other than the N270. Oh, and they won't allow a dual-core Atom in a netbook.
-
-
Any possibility of overclocking the cpu or overclocking the ram to use 667 or 800 mhz ram?
-
-
Just got one today at BB; still trying to get the hang of it. For one thing, the touchpad button (silver bar at the bottom) takes a lot of force to click - tiring even after a short time. anyone else notice this? Can double tap, but that's a bit noisy. hmmm.
-
What's the point of being able to run 1080p on a screen that can't display it and through a VGA port that can't show it either? For every feature a netbook gets right they completely screw something else up. I've yet to see the perfect netbook.
