Gateway Intros EC Series Notebooks
Gateway today introduced its EC series thin-and-light notebooks. The EC series has screen sizes from 11.6 to 15.6 inches and are claimed to deliver up to eight hours of battery life. The EC58/EC54 series notebooks are "so stylish that customers will want to show them off," featuring a brushed aluminum alloy chassis and two available colors: Arctic Silver and Pacific Blue. The EC58/54 series are only an inch thin and weigh 5.29 pounds with a six-cell battery.
The EC14 series features an 11.6-inch display and weighs 3.79 pounds. All EC series notebooks have 16:9 aspect ratio displays, LED backlighting, and 1366x768 resolutions. Additional specifications include Intel Pentium Dual-Core processors and Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics.
The EC series will be available on 22 October with Windows 7 Home Premium starting at $549.99.

I wonder what they mean by an 'aluminum alloy chassis' - just the lid or the whole frame? I am really liking the blue though. Thanks for the news!

From the pictures, it looks quite nice. Glad to see a dual core processor and long battery life come together in one relatively inexpensive machine.

Thats a pic of the 15.6" with the aluminum lid.
The 11.6 has a glossy lid and look exactly like the earlier Gateway 11.6" released just a few months ago.
I was so disappointed to find out the 11.6 didn't have the same design as the pic above. -

Erm ... does this remind anyone else of a Timeline type of machine with pretty colors?
Although I do kinda like the look of the thing.

I read same specs as Acer, so I dont see it difficult reaching under the same conditions the same time as the Acer.
