Gateway this week announced its latest line of professional notebook PCs featuring Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology (Santa Rosa). Their new E-475M and E-265M notebooks feature widescreen displays and IT-friendly features.

The Gateway E-475M is a desktop replacement PC featuring a 15.4-inch widescreen display. It has more than 10.5 hours of battery life and the latest in wireless technology.

The Gateway E-265M is a lightweight 14.1-inch widescreen notebook designed for professionals on the go. It is a mere 1.3 inches thin and provides the latest in connectivity.

Both notebooks have the following specifications:

    • Optional ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 HD 256MB/512MB graphics -Intel X3100 standard
    • Intel Core 2 Duo processors
    • Mobile Intel 965 series Express Chipsets
    • Intel Next-Gen Wireless N (4965AGN) or Intel 3945ABG wireless cards
    • Optional UPEK Biometric Fingerprint Readers
    • Optional Integrated Smart Card readers
    • Optional custom built-to-fit 3M Privacy Filter
    • Optional 12-cell and modular bay batteries

Gateway's new industrial case design encompasses matte black hard-wearing textured plastic, which is tougher than paint. UV protection on the keyboard helps to prevent wear (no more shiny keys). A new snug-fit lid prevents small objects from becoming wedged inbetween the lid and the base of the laptop. The new design includes an internal magnesium frame, and the hard drive has its own separate enclosure.

A three-year warranty is standard on both notebooks, and they are available for order now. Each starts at $1,299.

Thanks, Chaz. Interesting how Gateway stuck with the PCMCIA slot instead of ExpressCard on their E-265M.

So would this X2300 with 256MB dedicated and 256 vmem be faster or slower than an X1700 with 256 dedicated?

the x2300 isn't even dx10 and will certainly not surpass the x1700.

I believe the HD 2300 and x2300 are different

The video card was actually listed as a "ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 HD" and I'm not sure if that is the same card as the X2300. The X2300 we are seeing today is just a rebadged X1300.

thanks for the correction. i still doubt that it would surpass the x1700, though.

!0.5 hours of battery life on a 15.4? I'll believe it when I see it.

Agreed. If there is an HD 2300 (once again, we don't know what card this notebook uses), it will be the lower-end (possibly the lowest-end) card in the ATI Mobility Radeon lineup.
10.5 hours is quite long, although that's with a primary 12-cell and a 6-cell modular. I would be surprised if a notebook with mainstream specifications got less than 9 hours with all that battery power.

Yeah your right. 12 cells is alot of juice on its own and then the modular 6 cell, I wonder how much the E-475M is going to end up weighing. I hope it doesn't have a glossy black lid. I'm already tired of that trend.

It doesn't, thankfully. I agree that glossy lids are not the best idea - way too easy to scratch and get fingerprints/dust on.

This paragraph is worth special mention:
Note that the E-265M and the E-475M are business notebooks and are not part of the regular consumer lineup.
