    Gateway Announces 15.6" NV Series Notebook

    Gateway today introduced its NV series notebook sporting a 15.6-inch display and starting at $499.99. The NV series is a value multimedia machine and packs features to match, including an HDMI port and Dolby Sound Room technology from its two stereo speakers. The NV series features a one-touch MyBackup button that allows users to easily back up their data to an external drive. The notebook is available in four colors: NightSky Black, Midnight Blue, Cherry Red, and Coffee Brown.
    Below are the specifications of the $499.99 NV5214u model:

    • AMD Athlon 64 X2 QL-64 (2.1GHz/1MB L2/667MHz FSB) processor
    • 15.6-inch LED-backlit WXGA (1366x768) display
    • 4GB DDR2 RAM
    • 320GB hard drive
    • ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics
    • 6-cell 4400mAh battery

    Higher-end configurations, such as the $599.99 NV5807u, come with a higher-end Core 2 Duo T6500 (2.1GHz) processor. All models are backed by a one-year limited warranty.

    which cpu is better? rm-72 or ql-64? i just bought the md2614u in feb =/ for $550

    Still another great bargain in the lower end market though.

    An alright deal, considering the HDD and RAM but a Lenovo S12 offers similar graphics at a much better form factor for less. And minus the glosss.

    I think that it looks nice and at $500 seems like a good deal for someone looking for a budget laptop.

    One thing I found interesting the press release was this:

    If it is a good backup system that would be a nice feature to have included with the system. I'm interested in what the weight is....

    the weight of this laptop? it is around 6.8lbs if i remember correctly.

    I just saw this at Best Buy, it is a very nice size and looking 15 inch machine. The weight does not seem that bad (they didn't have the battery in it). On the Gateway site they show a picture with the bluetooth symbol but I don't see bluetooth listed on any of the spec sheets from the different retailers. Also, the DDR 2 is 667 mhz. I would hope it is upgradable to at least 800 hmz ddr2. For 599 it is still a great deal.
