Just several weeks into its release, Fujitsu is planning to update the S7000 series. They also informed us that concerns over the keyboard quality are unfounded, the problem has been resolved.

On the refresh front, we don't know anything other than it's coming in the next several weeks. It's unknown what upgrades will be involved, but it's reasonable to guess Bluetooth could be involved. Less likely is the possibility that they'll be re-releasing with the Dothan processors from Intel.

On the keyboard front, it appears that the scare started by PC Mag was completely false. Well, not really false, but not accurate. Fujitsu made the mistake of sending a pre-production unit to them for review. During Fujitsu's final testing they realized keyboard support was weak and reinforced it before going to production. It was too late though for PC Mag, who published the article before anyone knew of the fix. It's always hard to get the genie back in the bottle, but the negativity surrounding this issue may be part of the reason for the quick refresh.

Oops. Too bad for Fujitsu. "I've heard bad things about their keyboard..." seems to be posted everywhere, and no one who actually has the thing is saying anything. It's driving me crazy!

    Thanks for the info.

    Brian,

What about Bluetooth could be involved and why do you think it is less likely that they'll be re-releasing with the Dothan processors from Intel?

I think they may start including Bluetooth in all of their notebooks. To this point they've note embraced it fully. As for Dothan, there is a possibility a number of manufacturers will announce product on the 10th, along with the processors, but history doesn't indicate this is a strong possibility.

So just to clear some things up for me...

    The revised s7010 has:
    better screen
    bluetooth
    better keyboard?
    better battery?

The last two were the primary shortcomings identified by the pcmag article. If someone has any info, I'd appreciate it. Also, if the keyboard and battery are fine on the current model, does it make any sense to wait for the revised model? Thanks in advance.
