Fujitsu is following the path of many, waiting to release Sonoma-based notebooks. They are refreshing all of their Pentium M machines though and have a few pretty big announcements, including a 15.4" widescreen model with Ultra Crystal View. We also have updates on the other models as well.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Finally with the N3510 Fujitsu will have a 15.4" display in the mix. This was an obvious hole in their lineup that will be addressed very soon. We have it on good authority the N3510 will be announced next week and should ship shortly thereafter. Here's a quick rundown of what we know:<o></o>
- Ultra Crystal View display - Fujitsu is claiming CRT quality with their latest display. One of the best in the business may stand alone now.<o></o>
- 1280 x 800 resolution - No high resolution, which will deter some buyers<o></o>
- Intel 740 1.73 GHz processor<o></o>
- ATI X300 with 64MB - It's not clear if other video cards will be offered as they come to market<o></o>
- DDR2 RAM - up to 2GB<o></o>
- Dual layer multi-format DVD burner<o></o>
- Express card slot - This will be the first notebook to offer the new expansion card format<o></o>
- Memory Stick/Secure Digital card slot<o></o>
- Intel 2915 abg wireless card<o></o>
- Hard drives up to 100GB<o></o>
- TV Tuner option with instant on<o></o>
We don't have pricing information yet, but somewhere in the $1800-$2000 range, depending on specs, seems likely.<o></o>
Moving on, Fujitsu has another pretty major update for one of their lesser known models. The P1120 is being replaced by the new P1500. It will get the latest Transmetta processor and a new flip screen. The official announcement and shipping should come in March.<o></o>
Perhaps the most anticipated update concerns the S6000 and S7000 series. We don't know anything other than they'll be getting <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Sonoma</st1lace></st1:City> and a March announcement is nearly certain. It's likely an announcement regarding the E8000 will also come around the same time.
TheP7000 upgrade will be announced next week and could be shipping by the end of the month. Weknow it will see a processor upgrade, earning the new Intel ULV PM 1.2 MHz CPU. It will not get internal Bluetooth. It seems the tiny P7000 doesn't have enough space for Bluetooth and Fujitsu isn't ready to give up one of the WiFi antennas to accommodate Bluetooth. <o></o>
So for everyone who's been waiting for refreshes, this is the most current information out there. And for those looking for a 15.4" widescreen, Fujitsu is finally answering the call with what appears to be a very nice unit, at least on paper. It remains to be seen how much they can improve on a fantastic display, but you have to love their determination to be the best.<o></o>

mmm that sounds pretty hot. its great that fujitsu isn't going to let us down with the express card slot. i was starting to not expect it among the front runner sonomas.
i'm excited. -
A 15.4" sounds great, but I really do hope they get a 14" or 13.3" widescreen out as well.

thanks for the post Brian. I love the never ending battle of hyperbolic terms for these screens. I'm waiting for the Sony X-XBrite that they'll claim will trump the Ultra ClearView.
The 15.4" will be great to see, but this year was the year laptops are supposed to be slimming down and more buyers shifting towards 14" screens and smaller so I'm not sure if it'll be a hot seller for Fujitsu or not. It's odd that so many of the latest Sonoma releases are all 15.4", maybe mfrs. figure that's the sweet spot.

I like the idea, but as Brian said, the low resolution is a major deterrant for some people like me. What a waste of such a promising screen...

Here is a link to a pic of the new N3510 as well as some benchmarks.

When is a manufacturer going to come out with a 15.4" WSXGA+ Glossy Screen.
I've been waiting for months and there isn't even a rumor of one coming..... -

The Sony Vaio FS series has WSXGA+ Xbrite in Japan. I hope they will make it available in other parts of the world as well.
I think the Vaio A series is also availible with 15.4" WSXGA+ Xbrite screen. But they are a bit big and heavy.
IMHO 1280x800 is a total waist of 15.4" screen.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
Matom,
If they offered the FS with WSXGA+ here in the US I'd buy it yesterday. I've called Sony about 3 times on this and the salespeople have no clue or else they ain't talkin'
I agree that 1280 x 800 rez on a 15.4" is a waste. The damn pixels are the size of a freakin' slice of bread. [V]

Wow. How do you get your information? That's pretty detailed! I'm not complaining, mind you, just curious and DELIGHTED. Keep up whatever you are doing!
-
Gosh. Can't wait for the new S series updates.
-
Definetely hoping for a new laptop in the S6000 series. 13.3 Widescreen and maybe bluetooth!

I wish Sony would actually do some market research and release the FS series with WSXGA
(1680x1050) option here in the US. I'd also like to see a more powerful video card such as
an nvidia go 6600 w/128mb or a Mobility Radeon X700 w/128mb.
But in reality I doubt they will put anything better than a X600 in the FS (and that
probably won't happen for 6 months). I am puzzled by Sony, they have some of the best
aesthetic style yet they ALWAYS put some low end components in their laptops; and without
sounding arrogant I am willing to pay for the better video card option but it is not even
available.
I understand that the FS is a supposed to be a budget laptop but surely they can have the
options available for those looking for high end specifications.
I was all set on buying the FS but the lack of a WSXGA LCD and the inferior video card has
detered me from the purchase(the nvidia go 6200 has lower benchmarks scores then a radeon
9700 and is esentially a 32mb card that shares 96mb with the system ram = not 128mb as
sonystyle claims but esentially a video card with SHARED memory and ONLY 2 pixel piplelines
while the radeon 9700 has 4 pixel pipelines even though it is 'older' technology.
Attrocious! Forget about gaming at an ACCEPTABLE levelon this 6200 garbage!)
For a while sonystyle had a description by the nvidia option that was HONEST and explained
that the 6200 was actually only 32mb dedicated and 96mb shared but they have since reverted
it to '128mb' when it really IS NOT a 128mb dedicated video card.
I wrote sonystyle to inquire about these options and did not receive a response and I doubt
I will. I was thinking about the S-Type but the customizable S-270 at the high end only
comes with a 64mb radeon 9700 - not good enough.
I'm sure some may suggest a sager but to me I should be able to get a high end laptop with
function and form, meaning good aesthetics (magnesium alloy case) and good performance (a
solid video card. I wish I could get my message across to decision makers at Sony USA!
