With the LifeBook P7010 Fujitsu was the first to refresh their ultra portable line with Intel's newest 1.2 GHz ultra low voltage Pentium Mobile chip. The P7010 stacks up well against stiff competition in the ultra portable notebook space. It's more entertainment oriented than offerings from IBM, Dell and Panasonic, and the P7010 is cheaper and easier to upgrade than Sony's T series.

great review, i like it the way you put the previous versions in comparisons, and i love the way they spread out the keypad and use the full width of the base-piece.

But I was wondering why is a brighter screen always seen as a advantage of a notebook? My monitor is so bright that it stings my eye when i look at it for too long, so what's the use when it's as bright as that?

Because what you like isn't what everyone else likes [8D]

You can always turn it down if you want. There's no way to turn it up beyond max brightness.

Nice review. You did miss something though. The removeable optical drive is underneath the PCM and CF card slots, something that you don't really notice until you actually look in that area.

I honestly feel the speakers that come on the P7010 sound pretty damn good for laptop speakers. They would blow the doors off my Acer laptop speakers. They sound good enough for what laptop speakers are that I don't even plan on adding the drivers for my Audigy 2 PCM notebook card that I use on my Acer.

I do want to add a negative about this laptop now since today I accidently baked my laptop in the sleeve that I carry it in.

The power button on this laptop can be very easily pressed by accident, I feel that perhaps Fujitsu should locate the button to another area of the laptop so that it wouldn't be pressed by accident.

Whoever has purchased or plan to purchase this laptop it would be good for the longevity of this product for you to be careful how you carry it around so that it doesn't turn on by accident without your knowledge inside a case or sleeve.

I don't think it's the power button doing that. Mine turns on every now and then as well, I think it's something else.

Have you had it turn on while stored in the sleeve or case? Really that shouldn't happen. Why would it turn on all by itself for no apparant reason?

I've been bringing my rig to work pretty well everyday since I got it home from my trip and this is the first time that it has decided to turn on while stored in the sleeve. This is not a good sign for it to turn on all of a sudden without my knowledge.

That power button really should be placed somewhere else so the chance of accidently pressing it is reduced. I like the fact that on my Acer the LCD screen actually covers the button so that you really can't press it by accident, the Fujitsu should be like that.

You are mistaken in your comparing the P7010 and P7010D, calling the latter a "newer model", better screen, etc. Perhaps you compared your new D to an older "non-D".

The only difference between the two models, as you can see on the Fujitsu web site, is the brand of wireless card. The P7010 uses an Intel card (so the computer can be branded "Centrino"), while the P7010D uses an Atheros card. Both cards are abg, and both models of the notebook cost the same. (I don't know if there is any difference in performance of those two wireless cards, probably pretty similar.)

BTW, I've had a screen problem with my new P7010D. See other post.

There is a forum dedicated solely to this model at:

    maiki -

No, you're missing my point. I'm not saying the D version is newer, I'm saying the P7010 is newer than the P7000. I may have made a typo somehwere to confuse you, but I don't see it.

Sorry if I misread you, as I thought you had written something to the effect that the D version was a newer improved version. But I might have misread. Sorry.
