I hope this Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD war gets settled soon. Companies are switching back and forth, you never know what's going to happen. Interesting, yet frusturating at the same time. All I know, is that we consumers will ultimately reap the benefits of the end result. ;)

What would you like the title to be, BudgetKid?

I say wait it out. The benefits of Blu-Ray/HD-DVD aren't worth the risk until it's completely settled.

I hope both of them die out. But I know that won't happen.

Well, you know were are all going to have to get new dvd players that support HD-DVD, Blue Ray, or both. They are getting us in that market too.

Yeah - Sony's done real well in their other format wars.

No way am I going to pay $40 per Blu-Ray movie anyway.

The PS3, Sony's ace card in the whole, has now been officially delayed meaning you won't see it stateside until next year. I wouldn't discount HD-DVD. The discs are much cheaper to produce as they can be made with existing equipment. For those who remember the VHS vs. Betamax war, Betamax was techincally superior but cost more and lost. My best guess is that someone will come out with a drive/player that can do both much like DVD+R vs. DVD-R.

Yeah, I used to firmly support Blu-Ray especially with the PS3, but now I'm not too sure myself. I just want one freaking standard, I'm sick of all these format wars and the confusion, THINK OF THE CUSTOMERS YOU MORONS!!!!

The problem is the people who create the standard get all the royalties. Philips still gets them from CD-Rs.

It seems more like think of the profits than the customers. But lets see what happens.

I read a while ago that bluray players will cost around 1k while hd players only half that. And alot of bluray partners have pulled out.

I think this may come down to the computer industry as well, where HD-DVD will win with Intel and Microsoft backing HD-DVD. True, the movie industry is the one that's going to be most affected by the change over, but you can't exclude the computer industry from the whole view as well - it's going to be affected by the switch over too.
