Go ahead and post any more questions like this in the Fujitsu forum. As for the model numbers though, the D indicates an Atheros wireless card where the other model uses the Intel wireless card. That's the only difference.

Hi all. I found this thread via a search on P7010D and fan. Like Brian, I own a P5000 series (P5020D) and a P7000 series (P7010D).

My P7010D's fan is significantly louder than the P5020D.

    My configurations:

P5020D: 1GHz CPU, 1G RAM, 80G Hitachi HD (Laptopsinc), dual battery
P7010D: 1.1 GHz CPU, 2G RAM, 80G Hitachi HD (Laptopsinc), dual battery

In a quiet environment (at home, at night) I can barely hear the P5020D - the fan spins at its lowest level, and I rarely notice it.

By contrast, the P7010D fan regularly spins up to half of its maximum speed. It sounds like a hairdryer on low. This happens even if I'm doing a very lightweight task like entering text for this post - the CPU is at 15% or less, the disk isn't doing much, yet the machine runs hot enough that the fan is running fairly fast.

In an office environment, I doubt I would notice the difference between the two machines - offices have enough background noise that the P7010D's fan isn't noticable.

But for home, the P5020D is the winner. It's so quiet.

Is there a DVD writer option available for the p7000 or p5000 series yet? Please say there is.
