This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    I agree with this one. It would give us 3D designer guys a reason to go with it. I would like to see Intel come up with some Quadro-type drivers for IGP.

    Anyone know where I can configure the older models? They aren't available on the HP home site.

    I think that switchable graphics is only available with the dual core i-processors and NVIDIA gpus, so that eliminates most of the i7's since they're quads and also the laptops with AMD cards.

    It's been a while since I read up on it though, so feel free to correct me.

    That was last generation. All the i7s now have switchable graphics, including the quad cores.

    The only problem with switchables (Optimus especially) was a lot of shenanigans in the implementation...this may be from hearsay, but I heard that some who have Optimus have some trouble getting the graphics to switch when they need to...and for a workstation user that would be death because of the IGP crapping out in AutoCAD...that's probably why Quadros/FirePros got into the "switchable" market quite late, and some may still not have the tech at all...
