MSI, one of the cornerstones of the PC gaming industry, clearly has a new year's resolution to take over notebook gaming in 2015. The company showcased several new gaming notebooks along with a number of updates to existing notebook lines at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

Existing notebooks that will get hardware updates in 2015 include the MSI GT80 Titan SLI, the world’s first gaming laptop with an integrated mechanical keyboard; the GS30 Shadow with upgradeable Gaming Dock, and the GT72 Dominator Pro. MSI also revealed a new and redesigned GE62 Apache for the next generation of MSI’s GE Series gaming laptops.

Do you have a picture of the GT80 from the side? I'm curious just how much of an impact the mechanical keyboard has on height. At first I thought it was an odd position to put the keyboard in, but it makes sense now.

6 pounds and 1.14 inches thick sounds pretty good for a highly-powerful 15.6-inch laptop to me. It wasn't that long ago that would've been unheard of.

Agreed that the docking position of the Shadow is a bummer. If you essentially need an external monitor, it somewhat defeats the point of portability. At that rate it's not a whole lot more mobile than a desktop, although I suppose if the use case is powerful at home + mobile with integrated GPU on the road, it would get it done with one computer rather than two. Still, a desktop + less expensive laptop might be a more economical solution. I suspect this design won't be the one that makes external GPUs mainstream.

The actual Gaming Dock look and feel makes me think of a printer. That'd be kind of cool if it could both house a GPU and print.

well, I personally o find the new GE62/72 pretty neat. they look sleek and all plus they are still quite powerful. I am looking forward to reviews, especially how the 965M and the new two-fan design is doing.

Depends on which one you talking about: GT80 is godlike, the equivalent of going to a duck hunt with a main battle tank, while the GE Apache as far as I know 970M's are pretty solid too. About the 965M I got no idea because info is very scarce about it's performance.

The GS30+Gaming Dock combo, I am not really sure since it sounds like a slightly modified version of the Alienware 15+Graphics Amplifier gimmick, with the difference being that with the GS30 you can't game unless you somehow make a gap in your desk to set it in so you can use the laptop or you stand up.

well, the GTX965M in the NBC-test came out roughly exact in between the 860M (Maxwell) and the 970M (30% faster than 860M, but 30-40% slower than 9970M). IMHO this is a very solid performance, as you can run almost any games at high to ultra details in FullHD at the moment. for the pricepoint, MSI is aiming, I find this totally okay.
