This week HP launched plenty of new notebooks, including models in the dv, dm, and ENVY series, but the debuts might have left you wondering what's changed or what happened behind the scenes to spur the decisions. We talked with many product managers in New York City last month to find out how they updated many of their new models.

The envy 14 looks awesome.
The fact that its more affordable helps too! -
Heard anything more about Crossfire in the dv7?
Specifically if it's just a Hybrid Crossfire between the IGP and discrete GPU or is it a full on Crossfire set up with two discrete GPUs? -
I have never really been a fan of HP (consumer) laptops, but these look pretty sweet on paper. I'll be curious to see how they turn out. The whole clean design thing feels like Macbook Pro ripoff though. I do wish they had reconsider the super glossy screens while they were at it too.

I'm not a fan of Apple but if I wanted something that looks like a MBP i'd buy the real thing for a couple of hundred bucks more. -
These laptops look awesome. HP is gonna be doing well if these come out.
-
I'll be sold if the battery life is good, and it doesn't get too hot...

What about a new dv8?
Does anybody know something about it?
It would be a shame if they decided to discontinue this model. -

I am going to see if I can't get the full specsheet out of HP since there are a lot of places using 5830 and 5650. -

HP's always look alright on paper. That's why they sell well. That, and their good looks, and the fact that they're at the forefront of everyone's minds when they're shopping for a new computer.
Problem is, they run HOT. Once HP establishes the reputation of not burning my skin off, I'll consider them. -

The 17 inch rocks from what i can see.
Pushing eyefinity out is simply amazing. -
14.5" 1600x900 is great if all you do is watch movies on it.
The new tech pink design is hideous especially with the black battery sticking out.
HP spends money trying to make them look good on the outside while not doing much improvements under the hood. Did they re-engineer the cooling systems? Is the fan gonna sound like a jet engine still?
HP consumer notebooks suck overall. The only ones worth purchasing are their business lines. -

How many <=14'' laptops have higher than 1600x900? The only one I can think of the the Vaio Z.

I want to see a few reviews on the new AMD chips... HP is using them A LOT, Dell is going to used them and so is Acer... there must be something behind these chips... come on, review!!!
-
Yea I will definitely wait for reviews before I decide to purchase. But yes, they look good on paper

HP Envy 14 and 17 notebook: Big Changes for Less - The Next Bench
-
To clear up any possible confusion:
The Envy 14 has Intel HD Graphics by default if you select a Core i3 or Core i5 processor. You can upgrade to an ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 for an additional charge. The Core i7 version of the Envy 14 has the 5650 by default.
The Envy 17 has the Mobility Radeon 5850. None of the new Envy laptops carry the same 5830 that the current Envy 15 has.
Hope that helps. -
The HP Envy 14 and Envy 17 are available on June 27 and May 19, respectively, at www.hpdirect.com. The 14 starts at $999, while the 17 starts at $1,399.

because I really want the HP Envy 14....Mmmm, sexy. I was hoping for a 14-15 inch notebook to come out with specs I'd want (wishes granted, is there a santa claus? you betcha!) but a big because it won't be out till the end of june and I'll be off to Taiwan for business and won't be back in a while...i wonder if international shipping rates are anywhere near reasonable... -

I'm thrilled that the dv series is getting a facelift! The terrible urban art and chrome really turned me off of the current generation. I've been shopping for a new lappy for over a year, this may finally be it.
-
14 inch ENVY looks like keeper.
Me happy ! -
Feels a bit like an infomercial, but at least a decent one.

The Envy 17 would be appealing - if you couldn't get the MSI GX640 or Asus G73 series for $200-300 cheaper, with better components.
-
looks like no 5830...? ::cry::
still 5650 is a great card for a 14inch notebook. 720p webcam? nice... -
-
If it has a 5650 then I rather wait until they update the m11x and get that instead.

Considering that the 335 is already on par with the 5650 it does not need to be upgraded.

I was so excited to see this preview, thinking our reviewer's 'juice' would get them an 8740w somehow [no, I didn't expect it to be w/a a DC2 screen] so I could hear a bit more about it, but alas, no 8740w yet.

If the envy17 can get rid of that stupid white hot palmrest in ALMOST ALL of their premium laptops I'm sold. If not then Asus g73j is for me with a very cool palmrest.
Also, The beats audio did really "beat" the Altec lansing speakers? Altec Lansing for me had the best audio quality I had ever heard on a laptop, I wonder what makes this beat thingy so special. -
personally...headphones all the way ^__^
-
The Envy 17 seems to have all the connectivity... including USB 3.0 and esata. I was on the fence about trying a G73JH, but this looks like a nice alternative.
Does anyone know if there is a big performance hit with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 (Envy) vs. the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 (Asus)? -
The difference between the Mob. HD5850 with GDDR5 that's in the Envy and the Mob. HD5870 is only 75Mhz on the engine clocks....which is not that much. -
